The Hermitage, Bicton The Hermitage was built in 1839 and is clad with thousands of "fish scale" wooden shingles. The area surrounding it has a notable collection of Dwarf Conifers and heathers and overlooks a small lake and "Fairy Garden" with a stream cascading over waterfalls. Bicton Gardens Bicton opened their gates to visitors, after the coronavirus epidemic, and the sky was threatening. Visitors walked around at the required social distancing to admire the spring colours and enjoy the fresh air. Bicton Obelisk Bicton Obelisk, on the edge of the park, was built in 1747 by Henry Rolle, 1st Baron Rolle (1708–1750) as a visual attraction for the gardens. The gardens, which originated in c.1730 are Grade I listed.
