Lake District, Westmoreland Show The Westmorland Show held on the 2nd Thursday in September. A really good family day out. Cumberlan wrestling in which the prefrred dress code is longjohns, vest and fancy pants some of which are quite embroidered to a very high standard. Lake District, Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway One of the many steam locos run by the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. Catch the ferry from Ambleside down to Bowness and continue on to Lakeside. From Lakeside take the train, usually steam hauled, down to Haverthwaite and take a leisurely stroll down to the Anglers Arms for an excellent lunch and return the way you came. Loweswater Show Fell Race The little dots threading up the middle of the hill are the runners in the fell race. They are an unbelievable breed. Don't think they have brains, or at least have it removed out for the duration. Run!! up a hill then run, fall, slip down the same hill all in the name of fun......Just short of 3 miles in less than 22 minutes. The winner showing serious contact with a barbed wire fence or somthing similar.
