Echinocereus Rigidissimus v Rubispinus Today ( 20/07/2013) after sitting in the display in the shop window for about 7/8 years the plant has burst into bloom. Poppy Parade Could not resist this isolated collection of poppies. They are at the edge of the car park for the Royal Oak in Bookham High Street and were the only splash of colour there. THEY ARE GONE !!! WENT PAST TODAY ( 15/06/13) AND THEY HAVE ALL BEEN REMOVED, PROBABLY A TIDY UP AS IT WAS VILLAGE DAY TODAY. SAVED FOR POSTERITY ON POE. Well I Don't Know What It Is ! Found in the garden at the rear of the shop this chappie seemed to have got wedged in the slats of an outdoor chair. I carefully released him and put him down to recover. Must have been like that for a while as he sat for a long time in the same position before eventually and very slowly starting to move, after a while had a little wander around before going his own way-- but not before becoming famous. Tuppny appny one please guv! aka 'A Two Pence Halfpenny stamp please' Don't know how many times I have passed this but the penny only recently dropped that it was there and that there not so many about these days. This is found on what was originally the stable block of Grove House ( POE pic no 1156735) later it was used for the local Library and now is used by a business . Bee Fly The Bee Fly can be seen during April/June time throughout Europe and is often mistaken for a Bee. It's eggs are flicked by the adult female towards the entrance of underground nests of solitary Bees and Wasps and then after hatching the larvae will then find their way into the nests to feed on the grubs. Shocking happenings in Great Bookham, High Street Bookham was pleased to have had a defibrillator donated by the Rotary Club and it was sited on the outside wall of the local class butcher. Over the New Year period it was stolen by we not who (numbskulls anyway). However most of the local traders organized a raffle and so much was raised that we had enough to buy two, plus another donated by a company that make them so we now have three placed about the village. Today (Saturday) in recognition of this fact there were demonstrations so that many folk were aware of where to find them and how to use them . Men at Work! Outside the shop a drainage channel across the pavement has been a danger since the beginning of the year. After three calls to the Highways Department a report to "Fix My Street" a letter to local MP and other people contacting the Council as well - no action was the result. Today a crew stopped to do something else, they came and removed the cones that is the only reason no one has been injured thinking it had been done. A quick pointing out of what the problem was and to their credit the 'sarnis' were put away and they got on and sorted it out there and then. Country Side Management On Bookham Common at the moment there is a massive programme of management, many areas are having scrub cleared and some trees felled. Also some of the ponds are being cleaned up and dredged, one of the ponds is called " Isle of Wight" one of these days I will find out why it is so called.
