Here's an interesting couple of facts for you. Bransholme, Hull, is the largest council estate in Europe. The Humber bridge was until recently the longest single span suspension bridge in the world (I believe Hong Kongs' airport bridge is a bit longer now). Here's some famous people from Hull:- Maureen Lipman, actress, William Wilberforce, pioneer of the abolition of slavery, Philip Larkin, writer, Joe Longthorne, comedian/singer, Paul Heaton, lead singer of the Beautiful South...to name but a few. I wonder if your city/town can boast such a wealth of talent? Andy. |

Paul Young Singer lived in Luton although born in Scotland. Glenn Millar based in Bedfordshire in 1944 and was on his last flight from Twinwood Airfield (Clapham) near Bedford when his plane disappeared. John Bunyan born 1628 and famous for writing Pilgrim's Progress during his 2nd time in Bedford prison. Arthur Hailey writer of American blockbusters was born In Luton. Charles Wells came to Luton after abandoning his sea life for the girl he loved to start up the famous Brewey. Samual Whitbread , born in Cardington (Bedford) and was the founder of the Whitbread Brewey in Luton. G
