Didn't Jesus throw the money makers and tax collectors out of the house of God ?

To charge money to enter a cathedral is so poxy !

BTW Steph I used to love the sound of the old steam trains at night.

I lived near a railway line when I was a kid, you could hear the trains (steam ones then) approaching and disappearing in the distance at night. When I moved to the countryside I found it too quiet!

One of my favorite songs is about trains. Who remembers this one:

The City of New Orleans (click to hear the song!)

Riding on the City of New Orleans,
Illinois Central Monday morning rail
Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders,
Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail.
All along the southbound odyssey
The train pulls out at Kankakee
Rolls along past houses, farms and fields.
Passin' trains that have no names,
Freight yards full of old black men
And the graveyards of the rusted automobiles.

CHORUS:
Good morning America how are you?
Don't you know me I'm your native son,
I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans,
I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.

Dealin' card games with the old men in the club car.
Penny a point ain't no one keepin' score.
Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle
Feel the wheels rumblin' 'neath the floor.
And the sons of pullman porters
And the sons of engineers
Ride their father's magic carpets made of steel.
Mothers with their babes asleep,
Are rockin' to the gentle beat
And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel.

CHORUS

Nighttime on The City of New Orleans,
Changing cars in Memphis, Tennessee.
Half way home, we'll be there by morning
Through the Mississippi darkness
Rolling down to the sea.
And all the towns and people seem
To fade into a bad dream
And the steel rails still ain't heard the news.
The conductor sings his song again,
The passengers will please refrain
This train's got the disappearing railroad blues.

Good night, America, how are you?
Don't you know me I'm your native son,
I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans,
I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.

Not me, i've never heard of it Diana Undecided but I bet a lot of you in the UK know this one though! LaughingWink

They're two they're four they're six they're eight
Shunting trucks and hauling freight
red and green and brown and blue
they're the really useful crew

All with different roles to play
Round Tidmouth sheds or far away,
Down the hills and round the bends
Thomas and friends

Thomas he's the cheeky one
James is vain but lots of fun
Percy pulls the mail on time
Gordon thunders down the line
Emily really knows her stuff
Henry toots and huffs and puffs
Edward wants to help and share
Toby, well let's say, he's square

They're two they're four they're six they're eight
Shunting trucks and hauling freight
red and green and brown and blue
they're the really useful crew

All with different roles to play
Round tidmouths or far away
Down the hills and round the bends
Thomas and friends

Speaking of Trains, Planes and Automobiles, anyone ever see the movie - with Steve Martin and John Candy?  It was hilarious.  It's a Thanksgiving movie too.

Thanks Wolf - great link too! My Mom can hear the steam trains from her bungalow and see them in the winter when the leaves are off the trees. She overlooks the river at Bewdley- great spot! Love your new avatar. I'm trying to change mine so if I become a green blob you know why!

Love the songs too - I listen to Thomas the Tank Engine every day Lyn!

If you're anywhere near Bubwith, Yorkshire, you should nip to the airfield at Breighton and see the Real Aeroplane Company aircraft. In summer there are displays on several Sundays and the aircraft on show are beautiful.
