I thought it would be good to have a thread telling visitors and us members who love to go on day trips about attractions that we have enjoyed visiting and thought were good value for money - or not!!! Steam railway wise I have visited many and some of my favourites are The Severn Valley Railway - wonderful scenery of Worcestershire and Shropshire including historic Bewdley, Trimpley Reservoir and wonderful Bridgnorth. The Dartmouth to Paignton railway which has truly amazing scenery of estury and seascapes. Llangollen railway with beautiful mountain scenery and rivers. Of course the wonderful National Railway museum in York is a great day out and free! Plane wise I recommend Cosford RAF museum which is free and fabulous! It's near Wolverhampton. Automobiles - The Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon was great and good value. The National Motor Museum at Coventry was wonderful and free - the only thing that put me off was driving through Coventry and trying to park!

If for nothing else they have Mallard on display there . I used to love to jump on the train to York have a wander round , then go for a curry at the Tandoori Nights and get off home again . There is so much to see in York it never gets old . Hell I could wander around the Minster for a couple of hours if nothing else . |

It was the best day out ever! He drove the train the whole way one way and was fireman the other. To top that he pulled coaches and they let myself, Mom and the boys go along for the ride so I videoed the whole experience. After we had a tour of the engine sheds and then a lovely meal in the local pub! It was a great present and a gorgeous sunny march day! |

The closest I got was last summer when I was hanging out on the platform of our local steam train at weybourne station, which I often do I got chatting to an elderly man about the trains and he asked if I wanted to go up on the footplate, it’s all a blur from this point but I must of nodded yes because he had a word with the fireman who called me over and the next thing I knew I was on the footplate, it was so hot up there but I was in heaven, I made a total fool out of myself babbling on and on like an over excited child, can’t even remember what I was saying, the poor fireman, I think he thought I was a crazy woman. I got off the train, my legs were all shaky, I could of cried I was so happy, see how easily pleased I am. I went on once again this year but nothing will beat that first experience. Our North Norfolk steam trains run a 10.5 mile round trip which is known as the poppy line, stopping at Sheringham, Weybourne, Kelling Heath and Holt, you can purchase a day rover ticket for £10.50 which allows you to ride on the trains all day if you want to, in my opinion it‘s worth every penny Once a year during the summer they do a 40‘s weekend which is brilliant and they put on a fantastic Christmas display in December and run a santa specials for the children and me. |
