Hey Krissy, can you say 'Hairs are split?' You see, isn't it just stupid?

Oh Ron! There was an article in the Metro news about this today! To quote:

Racial Troubles Following Royals

A month after Prince Harry faced public scrutiny over his use of racial slur, his grandmother, the Queen of England, is facing a similar outcry following the discovery that racist dolls were being sold at the gift shop of one of her palaces, Sandringham.  The dolls -- called golliwogs -- trace their origins back to a children's book and were inspired by blackface minstrel shows popular in the 19the century America. End.

What next, we ban Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin", or how about Mark Twain's "Tom Sawyer"?

Honestly, all this politically correct nonsense has gotten out of hand. I am with you on this one Ron.

And I always thought that political correctness was a Dutch invention.

Ron, you and my husband Terry would get on great Ron! We went into this shop in Broadway about 10 years ago and he asked if he could buy a Gollywog for Joseph. They were horrified and said he had to call it a Gollydolly so in annoyance he got louder and louder talking about how it was just a name from his childhood and foolish political correctness! Living in the West Midlands we have lots of multi-cultural friends and they think it is all a load of rubbish too.  It is the "do-gooders" who cause all this trouble - in my opinion alot of them are racists.

I must say though that I do not agree with Carol Thatcher calling the tennis player a "Gollywog". However it was a private conversation and instead of it exploding all over the news and it resulting in her being sacked it should have been dealt with at the time.

What about the latest row Ron - Jeremy Clarkson calling Gordon Brown "A one eyed Scottish idiot". Some blind people are now up in arms about that. Haven't heard any Scottish people moaning yet though! They said it was using "idiot" and "one-eyed" in the same sentence. This doesn't mean he thinks all people with one eye are idiots - just Gordon Brown! I would hate to be in the public eye these days - you have to be so careful what you say. They will destroy comedy/amusing banter completely if we are not careful. In the 70's and 80's just think how many insults were thrown at Maggie Thatcher!

Perhaps you need to get Terry to register on POE Stephanie? He could add to the discontent in the country thus hoping the 'idiot' reads the forum! I bet he gets to hear about it you know, probably got several people searching the net for opinions..........that's the power of POE!

Interesting David, thanks for that because I suspect a lot will take a look. I have only just noticed the different spelling 'Golliwogs' as apposed to 'Gollywogs'. Wonder which way it used to read on the Roberstons Jams?
