Ron, this site does act as a force  keeping England intact..thats why anyone joining feels at home and wishes to continue to preserve our culture.

Recently, I tried to get people ( in my area) to do what is RIGHT... to make a stand against leg hold trapping and drowning of beaver..and get 3 major government bodies ( Fisheries, Highways and Wildlife Conservation )to form a union and then ACT. That means humane, live trapping and removal of beaver to a more wilderness setting. Encroachment on Beaver habitat has interferred with them and they are innocent! This is a deplorable situation.. but will people get up  on their hind legs and yell? No.....they won't, why? because they are afraid of being noticed, afraid of being ostracised and left out. I will not be being invited to the tea parties around here. No one wants to be close to someone who stinks of opinion.. who actually will say NO.

No Dice. No one wrote into the paper to comment, and my attempt to get the local wildlife society to give attention  to this issue, is met with silence! Not one letter to me.Even when I emailed them an article from England that illustrates how valuable beaver are for water resources!!! exclamation mark.

Start raising hell. Hold! Form a line and do not cross it.Though be prepared for war. And that is why the local 'gang of cowards' has refused to engage with me... because they know I am not going to give an inch.

My, aren't we the "times" though these days..you all have said some very important "truths" so far in this thread. When it comes to the saving of our proverbial skin, by another, you'd be surprised how UN-racist" people become.

shirley, people arent born racist, you just have to watch very young kids from a multi national school playing together to see that..As they grow older and start listening to racist adults they themselves become racist. Its one thing to be Patriotic to your country, its completely wronge to beleive you are superior to others just because they are different from you.

Just last week I came across "Golliwogs" in a shop in the city here in Melbourne and I was quite shocked to see them labelled GOLLIWOGS after all the "political correctness" hoohaa! It put a smile on my face.

Recently watched  'Australia' and curious why producers posted a caution at the beginning of the film found this blog discussion on racism.

" Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders should exercise caution when watching this film as it may  contain images and voices of deceased persons."

In Aboriginal culture/religion, there is a taboo whereby the name of a recently deceased person, and any other words similar to it in sound, may not be uttered.

There are titles with which they can be referred to so that others know who you're talking about, but their own personal name cannot be said aloud. In consequence 99% of film/tv etc that contain images or referrals to the deceased have these warnings in place at the begining.
