It is said, he was found sitting on a river bank, with pencil and paper, trying to write down 'what the reeds are singing'. Edward grew up at a cottage called Birchwood in Broadheath near Worcester. His father was organist at St.George's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester where he also owned a music shop. Thus, the young lad had the good fortune to be surrounded from his birth on 2nd June, 1857 by family and friends to whom, music was all. |

I fly my Union Jack every day here in the states. I would actually love to fly my St Georges flag, but when I have done this before, everyone seems to assume I work for the Red Cross, or I'm Swiss. Today is a day of celebration in our household (both my boys have duel citizenship), and I'm looking forward to English food all day. |

England is also the land of most of my ancestors and I proudly proclaim her as my motherland (never mind that I was born here in the colonies). Perhaps I should nip down to the pub for lunch. Yes, we have a version of an English pub down the street from my office, called the Black Rooster. They have darts in one section, and I understand that much of the decor including the bar, beams, mirrors, etc. were imported from England. And the food's pretty good too! |
