i was in my garden shed and i thought it was a sudden freak gust of wind until my 27 year old daughter came rushing out to tell me the bungalow just shook. i live just across the bay from cumbria, you can see the lake district hills from here.  dont worry debbie you'll be safe if you come to England, we get very minor shocks every few years or so and because our houses etc are built solid brick or stone they dont usualy present problems. No doubt the 'rumble' will be discussed on national news this evening.

I lived in Southern California for many years...I remember well the terror of earthquakes!  I am not eager to revisit them.

The Dudley Earthquake epicentre was a mile from my house. We had just had our waterbed and our room was empty as the wardrobes were being built. It shook the bed and we thought it was a feature on the bed they hadn't told us about! LOL. It was 4.8 on the Richter scale - on 22 September 2002 - bit of history there. Terry thought someone was breaking in (I wouldn't have like to met them!) and I thought a truck had come off the dual carriageway and hit the house!

3.9 on R/scale, happened about 9 miles underground near Ulvesten in the Marcombe Bay area.

Not even a mention on National news but local news did.

This is what so frustrates northerners, if someone sneezes in london they have to tell the whole world, if it rains heavy in London they alert flood warnings, if the sun shines in london 'we' all are having a heatwave. The only time they mention the north of England is for all the wrong reasons like crime, poverty, unemployment, poor housing etc. Like its not happening in london (you bet it is, lol).
