I live in a town called Winnemucca, Nevada, it is classified as high desert, which means anything over 2,000 feet elevation, Winnemucca's elevation is 4,299 feet. We have mountains on all sides, sand dunes surround us, no cactus, they are further south, but lots of sage brush and it does roll around like in the old cowboy movies. Here are a few pictures I took today on my birdwatching trip.

I did get to see some fun birds, Wilson's Phalarope, white-faced Ibis, Northern Shoveler, Willet, Spotted Sandpiper to name a few. I took loads of pictures, and realized that I want a bigger zoom lens (never satisfied). Here are two bird picture I took, a Yellow-rumped Warbler and a Yellow Warbler.

And get rid of that awful avatar, I know you can come up with something better than that.

I love Mistle Thrushes', I hope to see and picture a few on my trip, which is coming up very quickly.  Great bird report, Roy.

Wonderful looking country, even better looking birds. You are very lucky to be able to access such a wide range of birds.

However big a lens you get you will always find a situation where you would want somthing bigger.

The avatar, after a lot of trying, at last worked.  I have been trying to put it on for days. I will change it back after i have seen what Ron has to say about it.

The name of your town sounds more like an Australian than American town. I was wondering about the altitude of your town, don't some birds find it difficult to fly in the thinner air?

Regards Roy J.

Winnemucca was the name of a Paiute Indian, they say it means one moccasin because when the white men first saw him, he had on one moccasin. Who knows how true that is.

The birds seem to do fine. We have white pelican's riding the thermals during the summer, they are fun to watch.

My neighbour found the Bittern dead today    .

Roy, the avatar, well it's obviously that Peter who has been turned to stone! That'll teach him to look back at those birds on the beach!!

Regarding your pictures Sue, I can't decide which one i like best, but they are definitely both much too good to be hidden behind a link, so here they are!

Thank you POE for making them visible. Such colourful birds aren't they.

Thank you POE and Ray for your positive comments, I realize I have allot to learn with this camera, and I need to learn it, because I want to get a bigger zoom, but I won't do that until I know how to use the camera properly.

LOL @ Ray!

Yes Sue, the pictures are beautiful...I wish I had the same knack with a camera that most of you on this site seem to have.  I just don't have an eye for taking photos.  But I do enjoy seeing everyone else's!
