I loved aniseed balls, but they were hard to catch and all.

Does anyone remember Gobstoppers and Trebor Chews, all a penny.

Humbugs, liquorice roots and smoking cinnamon sticks ?

WEhen we were kids, we used to love fishermans friends. Not now though, yuck.

My mum used to get us those big gobstoppers. They were too big to get in my mouth, but she used to help by hitting them in with a hammer. Kept us all quiet for days. He he he.

Pulling this one out of the archive. Sure do miss some of the folks who posted to this thread.

I was thinking the other day about Jelly Tots and Dolly Mixtures. Do they still sell them in England?

Well right above your post Sue, Peter manages to find FB as well a send me emails still, so I don't understand why he doesn't look in here now and again.

Yes Sue, Jelly Tots and Dolly Mixtures are still sold here, and the ever popular Smarties.

I miss the old lot, too.  To answer your question, Ron, I'm going to guess that it's because Facebook is so time consuming.  That's why I dumped it.

I discovered Bassett's pear drops when in England and loved them. I couldn't find anything comparable here so I found an online store that sells them as well as other British sweets. Very nice. I've ordered the pear drops several times. I'm not much of a cook so I also ordered a packet of mix from them to make a custard. Forget the name of the brand, but it was very tasty. I also have a cake of some sort in a can that I've yet to attempt to make, but it sounded interesting.
