1939 Austin 10 Cambridge at Hungerford common, Berkshire

Used to have a Mini van and slightly bigger Morris 1100.  One of my cars appears on the site; a 1939 Austin 10 Cambridge that spent almost it's whole life in Holmfirth, West Yorks. I don't think she'd like the Nevada desert though.

Hope you love your new car Sue! My business partner has a Cooper S - grey with a black roof - very understated - I'd want a bright one too! I have a Peugeot 205 GTI (sorry I know it's French but they do make some here - just not mine!) - it's Miami Blue, 17 years old this year - I had it from new and it's a future classic so I am taking good care of it - it's only done 53000 miles and this was the 1st year it failed it's MOT! It's passed now though - I love it!

Hey Steph, I had one of those too, a black sporty Peugeot 205 GTi,and  I loved it!  But I've got a Rover now, had it for the past 8 years, its pearlescent and the colour is Amaranth (changes from purple to blue depending on which angle you see it from) It's 10 years old now but only done £62k I had my Dads old Vauxhall Viva HA in my garage for years, that was 'D' reg (about 1966 ish) but sold it and its been rebuilt to pristine condition now!

Lyn, I had a Vauxhall Viva in the 80's - it was old when I had it. I was turning round on the works car park when I was about 21 using one of the partner's spaces & the gear lever came off in my hand & i was stuck there! He wasn't well pleased. Sounds like your Dad's was in better condition! I love that colour Rover - it's fab- there isn't many about but the owner of the old Rover garage near us has one.

Paul - love the Austin Cambridge it's in great condition.

Thanks Stephanie, though after her last 23 years in Holmfirth being abandoned in a garage, she needed a bit of work to get her as new again, thus she's only done 21,000 since April 1939 when she was bought new in Huddersfield by Miss Baddeley who owned Baddeley Brothers bus/coach firm in Holmfirth. She'd kept the car until the day she died, though hadn't used it from c.1960 onwards. I did by chance, come across a chap in Huddersfield who recalled being taken to school in it, so must have been used a bit as a taxi in the '50s, doing the school run in West Yorks.  I hope Sue gets as much fun out of her new Mini as this Austin has given us over here.

Peter, you silly!! LOL!  Laughing  I'm in the same boat as your wife, I'm afraid.

Sue - I hope you have many wonderful driving miles in your new ride.  Surprisingly enough, the place I've seen the most minis is Houston, Texas.  I was over there the summer before last and they were everywhere.

When I was a silly teenager a friend took me for a ride in his new Mini Cooper S .

We were doing 120mph. down a long country road when a tractor and plough came out of a gateway in a field and onto the road in front of us. My mate swerved, we ran up a bank on the roadside, rolled over in a summersault and continued on without any damage to the car. But there was a funny smell for a while !........
