My hubby and I are going to Ireland next year for our 25th wedding anniversary.  Galway is where we will probably head to,did you go there Ruth? how did you travel? I'm undecided whether to go by coach tour, train or maybe rent a car.

Hi Sue:

We flew to Europe via BA to London, so we went by Ryan Air over to Ireland, flying from Luton to Knock, which is in County Mayo, one county north of County Galway.  We had a rental car waiting for us at Knock, and it was great for us, because Knock airport was out in the middle of the country, no big city traffic.  That gave us time and space to get used to driving on the right side of the car and the left side of the road, which neither of us had ever done.

We booked our car and accommodations thru Visitireland.com.  We got a package that included 6 nights of B&B vouchers and 7 days rental car for about $1K.  We wanted to see the country ourselves and not have to bother with any guided tours.  When we left Ireland, we flew out of Shannon to Leed-Bradford, and took a bus from LBA to York, for our week in N. Yks.

There are quite a few tour Ireland websites.  When you determine which type of travel you want, shop around and see who'll give you the best price for what you want.  I think ours was so cheap because we went in November.  But it was really a lovely time of year.

It's a pity we didn't know each other then Ruth, you would have been most welcome to call in and have high tea before you flew off to Ireland LOL

Hi Stephanie!  Nice to see you finally on the forum.  I'm off today, that's why I'm able to be here.

Lyn, next time!!  But you'll have to teach me about high tea.  The only thing I know about it is to make sure you keep your pinky extended when drinking from your Royal Doulton.  lol.
