I guess it has it's own beauty.

I flew over it once and was shocked at how isolated and cut off it was. Hundreds of miles of nothing between us and the next town. We have two roads that run into our town, one from the north that joins the interstate that runs through the town. It doesn't take much to cut us off from the rest of the world, and that is scary.

Sounds like when I did an internal flight when I was in China, I flew from Beijing to X'ian and looking down there was miles and miles of nothingness, very barren and very brown, no greenery at all.
