I did the point system for an bit, I like their receipes there, most of them are pretty good ones. I have orders from the doctor "no diets" this time around...none. He says I do so good on them because I haven't learned the lesson. So this time around he said I can lose the weight by no diets. He thinks I have an PHD by now on what I should be eating, and don't need to be told. Just stop eating so much. Excerise and more excerise and they supplied me with an dietician if I have any questions...of course she don't come free. I've lost 35 pounds an kept it off in one and half years, but I think I've called the doctor everything under the sun...this is not my cardiologist, this is the primary doctor. I now have all kinds of clothes in two sizes smaller..which I should get into if I stick to it and concentrate on it all by Spring clothes season. Five pairs of brand new blue jeans. The last time I went to weight watcher's and left it, my card revealed the absoulte "battle"I was going through then and after 3 months I had only lost 3 pounds and ping-ponged up and down doing that...losing and gaining all kinds of weight. Mary told me, to face it, that ladies my "age" have to eat what is equal to one decent sized meal stretched out three times. I've been trying to realize that one and get through the Holidays this year. Last year I stopped taking my meds for an couple of day's to have one small decent "drink" and thought before the night was out I'd die in the hospital before the night was out, so I learned, Shirley no "do"..the hard way. Weight watcher's challenges you to bring any receipe you like to them and they will rewrite to fit their diet. Istill think it's the best out there...but I have an ot of issues to work off personally and one of them looks to be why my trigycerides want to go up, and how come dispite the weight, lost my good level of LDL (I think that's the one) has never changed since I first went into surgery. I take an ton of medicantions daily also, to the tune of $800 an month...so this is an bit of research medically on me as well as recouperating. I am trying to be good now, and if I'm really good and there's no change in the lab work, it might be something in my body beside or including my eating to much of the wrong stuff. I was born an preemie baby you know and I've always had an weight problem. But they think I'm educated enough on "diets" to know what to do without being on one from another source other then myself...and maybe them. |

If you're a rabbit, it would probably work good for you, but the point system is too hung up on keeping you satisfied with highly processed foods that are fat free or sugar free. According the the system, if you wanted to stick to your points, it was better to eat some sugar free pudding or jello than a small dish of fresh strawberries, because the strawberries use up points. I agree with Jason, sensible eating's the way to go, and portion control is huge. Also at least 30 minutes of some type of exercise every other day. It's more lifestyle changes than anything else. My comments about Weight Watchers are MHO, of course. A lot of people are very successful with it, but I suspect that if you go off it, the weight will come back with a vengence. |

That's probably all I really need to do. My problem is that I HATE exercise for exercise sake and have yet to find anything I really enjoy doing.

And you might want to get some tapes or DVD's with short workouts. I also use some light free weights, to maintain muscle tone. That's even more imprortant to controlling weight, because it's your muscle mass that burns calories and you start losing muscle at age 20 at the rate of 2 lbs a year if you don't exercise, so by the time you're 40.....well, we've all heard the phrase "middle age spread" lol. If I go 2 weeks without working out at all, I feel like I'm 90 years old. I usually do my weights on Saturday nights whilst I'm watching my British comedies.
