To relieve headaches instantly:

Grab a small chunk of hair and gently tug and twist for two or three seconds. Repeat all over your head to stimulate blood flow to the scalp, easing the headache immediately.

Bread Poultice: To draw something out from below the skin, soak bread in hot water, put it in some cheesecloth, squeeze out the excess liquid and apply to wound.

I have some surgical thread left under my skin from my recent surgery, The other day I asked my Doctor if I could use a bread poultice to draw it out, and he said no.

So I still don't know if it works or not, but my mum swore by it for splinters and infections.

My father used to tell me that eating the crust of bread would put hair on your chest!

Rubbing butter on an burn... but you have to do it immediately after its been burned... and it can't be to bad of an burn. If it don't work, try it on the bread up above?.... My dad use to use vinegar on his sunburns to stop from peeling skin. But then he use to give us an small shot of whiskey and honey for an cold also...gesh, first time I remember that..it was AWFUL to say the least, burned all the way going down my throat...I thought he was trying to kill me, not cure me. In the days of James Dean and "Elvis" and all cotton jeans, how many gals remember buying jeans and then sitting in warm water and wearing them to dry to shrink to your body for an perfit "fit"?..or is it still being done these days also.

Putting butter on a burn is an old wives tale that does not work. Using butter, lotion or any kind of grease covers the burn and holds in the heat causing more pain. You should run it under cool water or lay a cloth with cold water on it. No rubbing or you could lose your skin.

Ditto what Sue says, workng in a kitchen leasrns you! In our kitchen in workm, we do have an Aloe Vera plant which when put on minor burns really does work.

Putting a spoon in your mouth stops you eyes water when chopping onions. (I've not yet tried this at work for fear of looking really stupid!) Laughing

Although I can't stand the smell, Noxzema on a sunburn really does relieve the pain by drawing out the heat. It's also medicated and helps you to heal faster.

That would be the menthol in the Noxzema. I've not used that in years, but I remember liking the cooling effect when I did.
