Smith and Jones. http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/alassmithandjones/index.shtml A spin off of Not The Nine O'Clock News which had also brought fame to another new star, Rowan Atkinson. Your, Father Knows Best seemed to be the only show where his wife did all her housework in evening dresses. As Maria so kindly pointed out, some of the shows on my list go back a few years, and those old westerns were the starting point for many big movie stars of the 60s and 70s. And speaking of the 70s,Upstairs, Downstairs and The Sweeney were two more of my favourites. But, to really go back, a friend of mine when he was a reporter for The Times newspaper, was on TV very early when he was sent to do a story on this new invention and got a demonstration of it. He then moved into television himself, and produced England's first TV commercial in 1956 for Gibbs toothpaste. Only last year, The Antiques Roadshow was at nearby Ascot, and one of their expert valuers inadvertently gave his considered opinion of how much I was worth! Some were amazed to find that it went as high as £10. Hi Maria !! How are you? Don't you just love these old shows? Always best to see them first time around, don't you agree?Edited by: Paul Hilton at:14th February 2009 18:59 |

David McCallum (Illya Kuryakin) was the very first man I ever had a crush on. He aint Half bad looking even now, as I've seen him occasionally on NCIS. |

Most of them were pretty naive in many ways, particularly if compared to the current ones but, occasional and original execeptions aside, it's a bit as if the new series keep reinventing themeselves over and over again; multi-seasoned, neverending shows with usually plenty of money and crews thrown in. At that time everything was yet to come and to be discovered. The future was fantastic :). |
