Hi Diana, and I do indeed remeber Alias Smith and Jones, and from the late 80s onwards, a take on the show's name with a BBC comedy show called  Alas! Smith and Jones. http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/alassmithandjones/index.shtml

A spin off of Not The Nine O'Clock News which had also brought fame to another new star, Rowan Atkinson. Your, Father Knows Best seemed to be the only show where his wife did all her housework in evening dresses. As Maria so kindly pointed out, some of the shows on my list go back a few years, and those old westerns were the starting point for many big movie stars of the 60s and 70s.

And speaking of the 70s,Upstairs, Downstairs and The Sweeney were two more of my favourites. But, to really go back, a friend of mine when he was a reporter for The Times newspaper, was on TV very early when he was sent to do a story on this new invention and got a demonstration of it. He then moved into television himself, and produced England's first TV commercial in 1956 for Gibbs toothpaste. Only last year, The Antiques Roadshow was at nearby Ascot, and one of their expert valuers inadvertently gave his considered opinion of how much I was worth!  Some were amazed to find that it went as high as £10. Smile

Hi Maria !! How are you? Don't you just love these old shows? Always best to see them first time around, don't you agree?

Interesting Paul, I never heard of Alas! Smith and Jones. I did however, greatly enjoy the re-runs of Father Knows Best series.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. oh how I loved that show.

David McCallum (Illya Kuryakin) was the very first man I ever had a crush on. He aint Half bad looking even now, as I've seen him occasionally on NCIS.

In fact I'm very fond of old tv shows, Paul. Most of them were pretty naive in many ways, particularly if compared to the current ones but, occasional and original execeptions aside, it's a bit as if the new series keep reinventing themeselves over and over again;  multi-seasoned, neverending shows with usually plenty of money and crews thrown in.

At that time everything was yet to come and to be discovered. The future was fantastic :).

My sister loved him Sue - she had a big crush on him too. We used to pretend to be UNCLE agents - and Champions agents!

Alas! Smith & Jones...what a riot.

I rate them right up there with "Open all Hours" and "Only Fools and Horses." That Rodney...what a plonker.

Banana Splits theme song (Tra La La):
written by Tony Powers & Ritchie Adams

One banana, two banana, three banana, four
Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more.
Over hill and highway the banana buggies go
Coming on to bring you the Banana Splits show

Making up a mess of fun, Making up a mess of fun
Lots of fun for everyone

Tra la la, la la la la, tra la la, la la la la
Tra la la, la la la la, tra la la, la la la la

Four banana, three banana, two bananas, one
All bananas playing in the bright warm sun,
Flipping like a pancake, popping like a cork,
Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper and, Snork

Making up a mess of fun, Making up a mess of fun
Lots of fun for everyone

Tra la la, la la la la, tra la la, la la la la
Tra la la, la la la la, tra la la, la la la la

(background singer - La-----aaah!)

Two Banana, four banana, one banana, three
Swinging like a bunch of monkeys hanging from a tree
Hey there everybody won't you come along and see
How much like Banana Splits everyone can be

Making up a mess of fun, Making up a mess of fun
Lots of fun for everyone

Tra la la, la la la la, tra la la, la la la la
Tra la la, la la la la, tra la la, la la la la
Tra la la, la la la la, tra la la, la la la la
