Terrible to hear about the shootings in Alabama. We can only keep those affected in our prayers and hope that they can somehow find ways to forgive the person responsible, although I suspect most won't go along with that right now! I know about the American right to carry firearms, but is it really worth it, is it really that bad out there? Perhaps those living nearby, or in the USA generally will be able to enlighten us here in the POE forum.

I just read the other day that in Chicago over the past 16 months, just over 700 kids have been shot.

And news reports this morning say that a teenage gunman had killed 15 people in south-west Germany, as well.

I've only just read about it myself. How tragic! Not only his family but other seemingly random-less victims.  My heart felt prayers are with all affected by this horrible incident.

One has to wonder how much of the increase in crime by young people against other family members is reflective of the lack of nurturing and proper home life when growing up.

I'm waiting to find out whether he had been taking antidepressants and possibly had recently gone off them.  Frightening how often that turns out to be the case nowadays.

i dont want to get political but I know these countries involved in todays killings have a strong pro-gun-law support. Guns, legal or not are only made for one purpose, to kill! If manufaturers where outlawed we'd be halfway to solving the problem.

I agree Mike! But no matter what you outlaw people will find other weapons to use. It is not about the weapons it is about how these people are taught and cared for from birth forward. If you are taught hatred you learn to hate.

Here is one of my favorite poems. It is so true!!!

Children Learn What They Live
By Dorothy Law Nolte, Ph.D.

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

Hate to say this, but I haven't  heard any news today, I'm so bound up in sick kids plus myself...fill me in somewhat....by then maybe I'll know by then if my grand-daughter gets to come home from the hospital..she went in last night...just after we got done with the "heaving up" session here at the house. Been with the little one today, just finding out he ran into an chair Saturday and looks like an raccon with an light bruise mark across his nose..they have had my grandaughter since last night..downtown hospital...one here in town sent her to their major hospital affliate downtown thinking she might be having  an apendcitus attack instead of the flu..last I heard they were testing her again and had her on Iv's. Waiting fo rth edoctor to give his evlauation..talk to them. With the kids here we watch a lot of TV shows gearded to them more then us adults.

I follow the English news via BBC on line. Knife crime in London (as well as other big cities around the country) is frightening.

Ban the guns, they'll keep on showing up. Ban the knives, they'll keep on showing up.

It is all so tragic and senseless, but there will be no end to it, not now.
