I like the name Roan too!! You never hear that name used. I wish I could have named a boy Eammon after my grandfather.

I use to read my son books where the main character's name was Ted E. Bear, they were very "hip" books for today's world. Based on realism of today's world. though my first name is Shirley, I went to school with an bunch of guys whose last name was Shirley. Remember when country western signer Johnny Cash made an forutune off of "An Boy named Sue"?  I can't think I'm over thrilled by naming an girl "Venus" to tell the truth...  I knew an family whose last name was Surface...he named one of his kids "Rocky". Feel sorry for kids get stuck with names like that for an first name...not so bad when it's an middle name and they can use intials when they grow up.

This is a great thread Diana! BTW. I always loved the name Diana.

I picked Bible names for my children because I think a Bible name will carry you through life - Grandpa Wayne and Grandma Sharon just doesn't sound right - sorry all the Waynes and Sharons! I love the name Isaac, Sue. It would have been a name I would have chosen if my friend hadn't beaten me to it! My children are called Joseph Edward (second name after Terry's late father), Aaron Howard (second name after my late father) and Solomon Adam (second name after a close cousin). My mother-in-law hated the name Solomon - she said he would be teased but I don't know how many people have asked me where it comes from - couldn't believe they didn't know!

Sorry about you being teased about you name Babs - it must have been upsetting for you to have changed it.

I think names go with areas also as Babs pointed out. Toby around here would be laughed at but in a posher area it would be fine. Accents also affect names - I cringe when I hear some of the broad Black Country mothers shouting Madison, Kyle and Chantelle - but with a well spoken voice they would sound fine!

I knew someone who named his kids after Greek Gods.

I remember Apollo, Zeus and I think there was a Athena. There were a passel of kids though.

This was many moons ago, so they are adults now, and maybe changed their names by deed poll.
