A Blue Plaque is on his former house now. Currently, a few miles to the south lives Richard Adams, author of the book/film Watership Down; a bit nearer to the south is Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber who owns Watership Down. A few other notables who have lived, or still do, near us include--- Group Capt. Sir Douglas Bader; authour Chapman Pincher; Justin Hayward of The Moody Blues; TV presenter Keith Chegwin, F1 team owner Frank Williams, and in the 60s,Mick Jagger had a mansion south of us. |

Dr. Young was also the associate director of the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

As they built the area, we had an group of people that lived hansomely but put the money into their back yards..in thier houses where people couldn't see it much, we had 5 in-ground swimming pools built back then in this housing project...an rarity for Oregon. Later owners didn't want them though and several were filled in for yards instead. Down the street was an Shrub/Tree Nursery business, and that guy was known for his part wolf-part husky dogs and competeing in Alaska's Dog Sled teams every year. But why neighbors, my great aunt took care of an former US President's house in California while he was in Washington D. C. being Grand Worthy Matron of her chapter of the Eastern Star Lodge. Her brother and her husband, before he passed on, both were known to have built many an movie stars residences during the early years. Their sister "Rose" that died of TB early on, I have an picture of her taken in "black in white" sent to me in front of "Rose's Resturant"in California...may be family connected...from other things I've been told. This would not be so important to those of you not from this area though. The Lawson family had at one time one of the biggest car franchises in Canada that ever existed. Many of them are noted Government employees for USGS..in the geological fields in general. One of them (William Lawson) built the only road into the interior Austrailia early on from its coastline also. I would say my dad's kin built an good share of the town and owned "George Morlan Building and Plumbing Supply", wihich is operating though he's passed on...it is widely known throughout Portland area Many of our neighbors have left since we first moved here, There's only an few of us left now for the most part... I can't say I know my nieghbors like I use to because of that also. I wouldn't mind living near Paul.....though I suspect many of his neighbors are not there much.. that are famous...more likely always on the go. Interesting names that's for sure. |

Some people who are famous now were born here though - and a few choose to stay but they nearly all support local charities here still and don't forget where they are from! Jasper Carrott the comedian I understand lives somewhere around Stourbridge as well as Johnny Briggs from Coronation Street. Frank Skinner the comedian was born in Oldbury, went to school and is best friends with Martin's cousin - he has a flat in Birmingham. Julie Walters was born in Smethwick. Lenny Henry was born in Dudley. Lovely comedienne Josie Lawrence was born in Old Hill & went to school with my sister - she dated my cousin at school and used to serve me with my shoes at the local shoe shop! The notorious Ozzy Osborne & Sharon used to have a farm near Stourton - Terry went there once & was chatting to them! Roy Wood from Wizzard always lived in Stourton. Just realised how many comedians originate from around here! That was good name dropping fun!!! |

The press picked up on this in the 1990's when he was found murdered at his home in Ashford, Middx. Never saw any further news reports if anyone had been found responsible for this tragedy.; a very charming man. Lenny Henry recently put his farm house on the market where he lives a bit to the east of us. |
