Diana, you didn't give your town justice in ways....what about Mr. Crowinshield....at one time, nearly the world's richest ship maker in the world. He was so influencial in his day that his obituary made frontier newspapers...in the late 1700's/early 1800's.  Least let us not forget the first "white-born" child was that of the White family while docked off of the harbor on the "Mayflower"...sworn to "God" and freedom of religion. I was told I can belong to their secluded family society off the Mayflower,  because of my dad's name of "White". Yes, they have all kinds of Reverands and minister even now.  It is said Paul Reever borrowed one of  my mother's family named relatives for his famous mid-night ride. But Portland has an close kindship wth Boston also, there are Kenney family live that here also. Bruce Springsteen. Paul Reever and the Raiders music group..live (or did) not to far away. Portland has been for many celebraties, esp from Hollywood...best kept secret up here for years on end.

Wow, Shirley, I am impressed! I am very familiar with the history of the Crowningshields, the Derbys, Nathaniel Bowdich and many others. Most were famous ships captains and merchants during
Salem's maritime heyday. I mentioned the more widely well known people as not many are familiar with Salem's illustrious maritime stars. :-)

Well, so goes I guess...but the Rogers family..m. the Larkin(Massachuestts)...I was into years back doing some historical work for them in Montery California, in the Historical Society... as Thomas Oliver Larkin home there is an state musuem you know, first "American" consulate to then "Spanish" California. They took an plazza not to far from his home and made it into an "Market place" ordeal....Sunset Magazine covered it after they finsished in an article.  Crowinshields defended the Rogers family and the ties they have back to England by way of Robert Carter in Wiliamsburg, Va one time in North Carolina political corruption. Back when they were all colonies. Gee, whiz, even my son has at one time thrown bits of Hay bale, instead of tea...off the ship there in Boston Harbor...as an visitor..but we also enjoyed touring Old Ironsides, I think it was called. This was only about 20 years ago you know. We toured the USA that year, came back and went ot the world's expo in Canada.....Larkins(some leave the s off and others don't) was my mother's maiden name. John White is quite noted also in history...esp with England..he sold the property Windsor Castle sits on these days...or at least so I am told...out of Pennsylvania records of family there. They married into the Stevens family. Elizabeth Stevens White was an world reknown travelling "Quaker" in her day. But anyway...how are you doing these days? Did you get an chance to take off the worse of weather this year.....or get yourself invovled into other things? Your heart throb...Johnny Depp was declared this year's sexist man you know. You kow how to pick your men I guess...laughs*
