Oh wow! I've never heard of Kissing Friday. I'm going to email all of my friends, and let them know.

Oh, starts working lips ready for tomorrow

(I just told my husband, who informs me that it's also kissing Thursday and I need to get off the computer and.... well, you know)

I googled it, here you go.

Kissing Friday and other British Easter Traditions

No one knows where this custom originated but until at least the 1940s, the Friday after Ash Wednesday was known in Britain as “Kissing Friday.” On this day, school boys could buss any girl they encountered without fear of retribution. In some cases, the boys strung a rope across the road and demanded a kiss as toll. If the girl refused to pay it, the boy pinched her bum.

In Leicestershire, Kissing Friday was called Nippy Hug Day and adult men joined the fun. If a woman refused to give up a kiss, the fellow “loused” or pinched her. (A curious reference to pinching off lice.) In some places, the “loused” woman was required to play temporary wife to the pincher, but it isn’t clear what that may have entailed. One has to wonder, however, if this tradition is related in any way to the custom Italian men have of pinching the bottoms of women they pass on the street.

Don't like the thought of the lousing bit Sue!

Morning everyone. I had computer problems the last few days - a virus got through my firewall & virus software! It has really scared me - my computer man has been and fixed it all but I had another attack again yesterday in my e-mails which the software dealt with. No fun at all!

Hope your son is OK Cathy.

Sorry that you have no result to the situation yet Cathy.

We are OK thank you - just battling on! Trying to clear all the rubbish out of the office and house ready for the (hopeful) move but I'm having to do it myself which isn't easy!

I better go now and get ready for the day ahead - we have had snow again here but not much!

Rita - Richard (Rick) is in the midst of his big move so won't be about much for a few weeks.

Have a great day everyone!

I have revised Kissing Day       and now it is the women who can buss        the men, and my husband is about to come home from work (night shift). I have a rope across the doorway, I'll get him good    .
