No, none. I was a goner when early on during our first date Shirley said: "You know, you're going to be a really hard person for me just to like."

That's just the way it happened. And it couldn't have come at a stranger time. Neither of us were looking for a permanent relationship--I was in my last month on campus of my senior year at our university. I was getting ready to student-teach for the first 8 weeks of the next semester in another city several hours away and then for a further few months as an exchange student teacher at Peter Symonds College in Winchester, England. That was difficult, but we made it through--Shirley still has all the letters I wrote to her and mailed off every day that I was in England! Ah, love!
