Ron, I think giving to charity is a very personal matter, like religion. Some people give a lot, others just what they can afford, some people have a cause they're passionate about, others don't give a dime. It's all voluntary and there will always be people who give. But when you think of how many people there are in Britain, if each person simply emptied their pockets of spare change as they left a store, it would be a considerable sum. I had an email not too long ago in response to the governments bailing out the banks. It simply stated that instead of the billions the govt gave to banks, just give every person 50 or over a million dollars with the following stipulations: They MUST retire - 40 million job openings - unemployment solved. They MUST purchase a new American vehicle - auto industry problem solved. They MUST purchase a home or pay off a mortgage - housing crisis solved. LOL, very oversimplified, but kind of what you're saying, eh? |

I too give small change to collectors at supermarkets etc even though we are on a small pension, but we do raise money by our efforts for Help for Heroes. I supose this is hardly suprising because my husband was injured in the forces many years ago and there was no Help for Heroes in those days and it made life very hard indeed. Although I would be the last person to criticise anyone I personally feel that what goes around comes around so I also try to spread a little love as wel land that costs nothing at all. |

Except it will take a little extra work on your part, Ron. Instead of a green card, you'll need to get me a birth certificate.
