I can buy her cookies at the local discount bakery here in town. Unfortunately she's supposedly deceased now. Nope, you better take Karen's suggestion...as my two British cookbooks don't have them listed in any receipes. I'd probably have to look in the Chirstmas type cookbooks. I don't think they are really for sale out here until around that time...generally made into dried fruit packs. If you see an good Muslim you might ask them. I've done it before with the sea captains at the coast on an good Clam Chowder, Until then...freeze or dry them. You can always see if Paul Newman will share his fig cookie receipe...and I bet an mincemeat receipe might work well with them also. A little history here from the "Great British Cooking" book...some 31 years ago...in my own words though...Mince pies are traditionally Christmas fare...The earliest pies were shaped like little boats and contained meat, as well as the spices...during the Reformation the little pies were considered Popish and anti-Protestant, since the little boat was suppose to represent the cradle of the Christ child filled with wisemen's gift's, and for an short time were outlawed. However, the laws were relaxed and they came back into their glory of an special holiday treat. Closest the otherr Britain Cookbook has is Maple syrup and Pecan Ice Cream for an dessert. Sounds like they'd go well with the little pies...and some " tea" though. Which reminds me, we all got to see Paul McCartney (The Beattle's) walk out of the church this morning having just wedded and on his way with his wife to their honeymoon. I thought he looked "young" to me, back in his early days he was older then me...wished I looked that good. smiles*... I think I could use some support...from head to toe...lol. |
