Ruth, I am completely addicted to Downton Abbey and record each episode to watch at my leisure.  Same thing with New Tricks and William & Mary.  Did you happen to see a 2 or 3 part series called Martin Clunes: A Man and His Dogs?  I really enjoyed seeing him as a real person as compared to Doc Martin.  We've also recently started getting Midsomer Murders, but it runs a bit behind where I am in the show because I've been getting them through Netflix (started at Series 1 and am watching them all again right the way through, while waiting for the latest series to become available here).

I think Downton Abbey is one of the best programs I've seen in many years, Barbara.  I watch it then watch it again online.  We still don't have MIdsomer Murders though.  But I can't help but think of Paul Hilton every time I hear of it.

Downton Abbey does seem to have a fair few US fans who were also on BBC Radio Berkshire tonight from New York; For Series ( aka season) 3, they have their American family arriving in the form of Shirley McLaine. You were a stones throw away from Downton on your visit here, so perhaps next time you're over, you might want to pop in.

Various PBS stations are now running Midsomer Murders so I guess it's pot luck the region you're in if they're showing them there. And of course, you drove through Midsomer too on the outskirts of the county, wending your way through the villages of South Oxfordshire.

Martin Clunes--you might also enjoy him in the TV comedy series Men Behaving Badly. Though his work is primarily TV, he did appear in the movie, Shakespeare In Love.

And Here's Dwonton designed by the same architect that did the Houses of Parliament. Its family connections to King Tutenkamen is also interesting as the then Earl of Canarvon discovered him in the 1920s I think, on his searches of Egyptian tombs in the Pyramids.
