just to get away from the usual threads which seem to dominate the forum i thought this one may create a bit of interest--what pleasure are we getting from our licence fee.??

i for one very seldom watch tv. simply because there is nothing to interest me -- i find there are too many repeats, soaps, reality shows, and most of the time we are getting hammered with mediocre quiz shows.

where have the documentary programmes gone, programmes that can make you want to look forward to the next showing,i contribute to virgin which i get unlimited broadband and unlimted phone package but the tv channels are absolute rubbish---can anyone comment on this.

Crikey James couldn't agree with you more, but in fairness I am so fed up with the television that I don't watch it any longer. I think that kind of answers your question, but am sure this thread will run for a while, well done mate.

Don't mind New Tricks though!

Wife buys a TV listings mag every week and I hardly ever open it

Used to like the odd quiz.....but there are too many now

Also liked the odd cookery programme, but again too many now

Absolutely can't stand the so called 'reality' shows irrespective of what or where they are or which B list has-been celebrities are on them

Soaps are also a pet hate especially the wind up to Xmas and other specials. It is the same b******ks every year........Someone is gonna get married while some other poor soul is gonna get killed off. A baby will be involved somewhere in the so called 'storyline' and there will be a disaster of some sort usually involving extreme overuse of pyrotechnics. Message  to the producers of the main three.......why not get together and produce one half hour episode and get it all over in one go.........EastEmmerStreet?????

Even films are repeated 2 or 3 times a week.......why???

However I do like the reruns of Summer Wine and Dads Army, will watch anything where Fred Dibnah is involved and watch quite a lot of QI from which funnily enough i do manage to learn something most shows. BBC4 quite often gets a look in on a Friday night depending what the music content is, can be quite a good night

Sorry to ramble on James but you did ask and I could go on but basically I think TV at the moment is decidedly poor and I am very pleased I have my photography to keep me busy not to mention POE

Yes Ron, there was a Grumpy Old Women and if I remember correctly there was a surprising amount of sense spoken there too

At the end of the day I tend to vote with the remote and switch the ruddy thing off....that is if i get round to switching it on in the first place. Might just have a quick look to see if anyone interesting guesting on The One Show as they do get the occassional 'interesting' bod on there

But my view in general is that TV is pretty rubbish these days. When we are away Anne has it on in the mornings, what is known as 'Daytime TV' I believe, as we're getting ready to go out and what a load of drivel there is. I'd sooner have the radio on but the reception isn't too good in our little cottage. Jeremy Kyle how can anyone with a gram of intelligence find that entertaining?????

Good thread this one James....if it can keep going, needs input from a few more peeps.

Hardly ever watch TV at the moment, there are a few little gems on tho'- "Great British Railway Journeys" every evening at teatime, "Eternal Law", thought we'd give it a try, certainly different"Law and Order UK",that's good, "Above Suspicion" on a Monday, and the very very best "Sherlock Holmes" that was on Sunday evenings (Can you see a pattern going on)..Oh and must not leave out AB FAB, Joanna Lumley still as brilliant as ever!

I totally agree with you all about the so called REALITY shows, I don't know what world they come from, but the things they get up to are Deffinatly NOT real in my world, thank goodness...and  just how cookery show can they put on???...and dancing - on ice, in a ballroom, in a tv studio, aaagghhhh!!!

And how many more Emergency Blue lighted programmes can they squeeze out..Medical Emergency,London Ambulance,Emergency Bikers,Motorway Cops,Traffic Cops,Real life Rescues,Helicopter Heroes, the list goes on and on...o.k it goes without saying that the emergency crews are fantastic, but do we really want to keep seeing the same accidents, falls, slips, drunks, paraletic drivers, speeders, and the like over and over...

Oh James, you had NO idea what you were starting with this thread!!!! - I am finding it sooo theraputic Laughing ..

And repeats...I didn't want to see half of the dross when it came round the first time, so I certainly don't want to watch it on the 4th time round, I think we should get a refund for every repeat the BBC put on, that would stop it!...

Well I have had my rant for the moment, must have a lie down in a dark room..I haven't even started on the sport!
