My friend had a job in the florists next door and I remember being miffed that she got £1.50 for an hour less a day. Have a good day at the museum James, look forward to the photos |

That is a good sickness record James, I've not had a day off sick since 1995 and prior to that only 4 or 5 weeks. Pity folk don't have the same attitude today......a slight sniffle and they have a couple of days off!!! WIMPS |
Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 19:11 on 7th July 2013 Oh, my gosh..what's going on over there...here it is I am reading that Nigellla Lawson and her hubby are divorcing....they have become estranged this last year over the kids...hum..maybe teenagers?Seems he took to her throat and the police had to show up to let her loose from his grip. She's so pretty, now whom would want to do something like that to her. My first job was all summer long when I was 15 years old and worked for an local tree nursery at something like 95 cents an hour..we worked six days back then..8 hour days...I doubt England has any currancy that low to compare the wages with. But we'd been doing the berry field curcuit with our mother since we were about 10 years old off and on..now they sell those crates of berries for $23 an crate....and we never left the field without at least picking 7 to 8 crates an day. Nursery job would start these days at barely over $8,00 an hour. They don't hire kids any more..both jobs have went to regular workers. Kids now have an hard time earning extra money..one of our problems I think. We used our money for winter clothing and school supplies..and going to the movies over summer. Usually added the county fair once an year also. Berry fields and Green bean picking have for the most part went into large houseing developments through the years. I graduated by June and was working for the local hospital by that August in the laundry putting lines through an huge magnle or steam ironer. For the surgical clothing we ironed them and then gave them to two other ladiesand they made them inot surgical packs of clothing...and put them through and auto-clave to sterlize them. I was going to college classs at night in the winter time. Hospital is no an rehabilitation facility these days...most the laundry's go to one central place these days off the premises. Cloudy today...and later this week temperatures are going down again, tomarrow I have the grandsons while grand-daugher and mother go have her recent operation checked out. So I guess that means I better get some more milk and munchies for tomarrow. Everyone around here has spent the better of the last two days working in their yards in my nieghborhood. Including us, he got the side yard picked up and the boat put back there. He said he'd like to getone of those covers for it and I agree, but don't know if they would hold up very well in the snow over winter. Bit expensive to lose if they don't hold the weight on their own. Something to look into I guess just the same. I guess I best get going for now. Slept in late this morning. |
