Well the first place that springs to mind is Ostia which is SW of Rome and in ancient times was the main seaport for Rome. But, I'm thinking this might be somewhere else.

I'm wondering now if this has something to do with the city of Antium, now Anzio.

I've been having a think about this whilst I've been out and about, and I've come up with Leonardo da Vinci, which is the official name of Romes Fiumicino airport which is 21 miles or so South West of the city.

I need to have a look at some of my old maps of Rome to check out the area in a bit more detail.

I'm talking myself out if this answer, Fiumicino I don't think was there in ancient times. Also the airport was named in honour of Leonardo, because of his helicopter designs.

Back to the drawing board.

Is this you John, Lawrence in Latin meant from Laurentum, which also meant 'crowned with laurels' from the town of Larentum an ancient city south of Rome famed for its Laurel trees. I've just found it in a book called Roman Italy by T.W. Potter.

Thanks john, yes I've come across both spellings. I will be back later when I've had a think.
