Give here, there, adopt, protect, save, support, send, text money...

Unfortunately, as people's disposable income has dwindled, the charities have become more competitive and aggressive in chasing what little money there is.  I detest any attempt at manipulation, as in the tear-jerking TV adverts accompanied by carefully chosen sad music, or the disingenuous approach of the commercial 'Charity Muggers' on the high street.  

The giving which is done from one's heart, and is hidden, is the truest charity and is known only to God.

BTW, never donate to charities by text message on your phone: you can be sure they will harvest your number and call you for the hard sell from their call centre.

Before I rattle on here...they have an commerical from Bayer asprin, I'd like to see jerked off the air..it is people opening up mail in which it states...".your heart attack will arrive tomarrow"....then it goes into the remedy of Bayer asprin. I don' tlike ads that wish death on another person to sell their product. Asprin posioning last year out ranked any other drug..pharmacutical problem. 

Ron, National Geogrpahic magazine has done sever articles on the dwindling forrest over here...there is now only 1/8 left of America's trees....so why should that matter?...OK...birds live in trees, animals of all kinds live in trees and eat the foilage....including the inscets that eat the trees. The pioneers whom came to this land..wiht no money had trees to build house and keep warm with..not to mention the Native Americans that used tree roots for ropes/ladders/eating utensils/weaving in clothing/boast for water transporation/herbal medicines/ and many other things used in processing hides for instance. Pitch was thier "glue" of the day. Sugar Maple trees their syrup....as well as an place for bee hives to attach themselves to. Birtch baskets made an good many holders of harvest products from mushrooms, to cranberries, to fruit and veggies. Carvers decorated life in thier work for their homes, not ot mention the furniture they made. Trees take the carbon monixde out of the atmosphere...and give back oxygen to breathe...they create thier own climate of rain in South America, and without them...we'd have baren land in an hot hostile enviroment. Trees use to be grown beside all dirt roadways...and were fell for brdiges across many an stream. High up they offer protection in wilderness from predators. No, we don' thave the animals we use to have...even since the 1950's when I can remember school shut down for the kids going deer hunting with their parents for free food all winter long. In an survival situation now..it would be impossible to feed the country.What was it on the news tonight talking about Washington State's Gooduck Clam  Industry...it gives the state $101,000,000 in business profit yearly. Not bad considering so many places have closed down in the recent past because of the eeconomy.

Charities I support, when I have the money....I was an charter member of the National Women's Art Insitute in Washington D. C...and an regualar charity of mine was Boy's Town, in Nebraska,I have always tried to help the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, and Goodwill Industries...because all three give back for any donation or amount you might spend there...they provide jobs for people and life in general.  Of course we also support yearly the Boy Scouts of America and the Veteran's. That's the major ones, but I've also tried to help in Hisotrical societies at times also. Once they become major money earners, unless it's local or there's real need, I tend to do the ones locally. Many of these I had to give up when my hubby lost his job some years back, we lost 75 per cent of our yearly income back then, and barely survived the ordeal. So I can now only give what little I can afford. I also liked back then to helping Uncef....I'd buy from thier catalouge of third world country craft/art items. If I don't have the cash...on hand...I don't give very generaously either.  I also use to go to local Christmas Bazzars at the Elks Logde, an dlocal churches. I like to help at the Octoberfest Mt. Angel senior citizen's center yearly also...as an small town the money they get then goes to their "Meals on Wheels" program. I do no donations by phone or internet. I prefer buying an craft work over anything else. I've done that for the Native American's at thier craft shows when they come to Portland....and books from them, also. Nor do I like being told to join an organization to be part of it, that includes regular fee's. When I have the money I give freely. So I wish the state would stop raising our property taxes....this year they did that by $169...which means less money for other worthy causes. According to the lastest figures we pay more tax money then just about any other country in this state as it is. It more then wipped out last year's medicare "cost of living raise" in our Social Security checks.

I wrapped up the family's Christmas presents and took them out to he kids and brought the oldest grandson over for the night. Yesterday we all had nasty horoscopes no matter what sun sign you were.
