Posts: Joined: 1st Jan 1970 | editPosted at 22:36 on 6th February 2014 Good morning..I think..it's snowing here right now...looks like fine grained "salt" on the street, first one of two squalls incoming through tomarrow. Looks like it's insulating the roof pretty good where one roof tile goes down to the next. If it were rain, I think it would be more of an drizzle then true rain. As an physic/senstive...had a an moment of real depression last night I could not account for. Its been on my mind to understand it. It was centered around looking over the Langhorne family notes, as I'd just picked up one recently stating that William Lanhorne was the grandson of William Dandridge W. Clairborne of "liberty Hall"...I knew the family were "Quakers" out of the Read family that is William E. Larkins wife's side. I also knew they were quite wealthy and many of them had thier lands conviscated after the Rev. War. Only report I've seen of the son William Langhorn was not good, and basically that four Indians turned on him and Slaughtered in Tenneessee. The geneolgist's also point to the fact that for such and welathy family little is known of the future descendents but only in an few cases. But then again..quakers refeuse to sign oaths also, pledge anything, serve politcal offices if they were require to take alligiences. Both the Lucus and Langhorne's were "Quakers". Anyway, I come to find out...the Harrison family raised the Langhorne descendents in one case...I have tied them before to our family and the Read's out of New York/New Jersey before. I had them in the records of my hubby's kin also, he did their surveying for their Taverns in Kentucky..they were catering ot the needs of the men building the "national Road" as they called it and expected an branch would later come into their area off the main road. So I looked on my papers again...ou tof the place where my relatives came from and sure enough...there's Henry H. Harrison there in name. But there are numerous reasons why he was there before he became the ill fated President that died in office. The area was an land alltoment area being ran by the uncle of our Rachel Reed..as they spelled thier name then...it started out though as Read...from Ohio and New Jersey where it was Read. Perhaps I was feeling the despair around the legacy of Henry H. Harrison last night or the whole episode of the murder by the Native Americans in general...he could of been there also because the land was laid aside by congress as land patent areas for military service. After Geroge Washington died, those left in charge started taking away the land grants he had given to the people in Ohio, unless the ground was made into an "school" or "Church"...which the quakers never had, they had what were called "Meeting Rooms" most often in people's houses, one reason why so many of them enspoused the "Baptist" faith instead. I believe that "Thomas Larkin", son of William Larkum of Virginia..if not William Langhorne family in some way...was the said preacher with George Washington at his death perhaps. He has an son from where William E and Racheal Reed married in Somerset County, Pa. ..but the name of Thomas W. . they expect him to be afilated to the Thomas Larkin said "one of the three Bishops" of Methodisim...of which Racheal Reed's brother got involved with.where they lived in Ohio. This makes an point on who my hubby's family is also...as those of Kentucky were traveling with Murphy family. From the records of William E. Larkins family to Oregon in 1847..it seems aas if they were given an "Indian Escort" through hostile country not not be moelsted by some one pretty highup as an Chief also. So I guess the matter to be found out next was why was this future President in the remote area that they lived in Illinois. Not far from where Abraham Lincoln lived in Springfield. In fact one of his campain managers lived in this area supposedly also. This Mruphy/Reed kin went to California and were in the tailend of the Donner Party caught up in the High Seirra's which are so famous. They were said in the tailend of them, on the other side of the Lake because the father named Reed got into an argument over the abuse of this Germans' wife he was abusing, he asked him to stop, and the guy took out his whip to to use it on Reed and his wife, and Reed shot him dead. So they supposedly held an court trial out on the edge of the Great Salt Lake, they bannished Reed from the party, put an Col. Stauton and two Indian guides and the rest o fthem to catch up with the original wagon train. they made it as far as the other side of Donner lake, before winter sent in. Mrs Reed was given an abandoned cabin they military knew of while the other side were apparently building there's to survive in...Mr. Reed in the meantimeof the first snows left to go find his family help. He was finally abl eto rescue them by early Spring. But I did some research work on this story given later in her days of the ordeal of one of the children. Now having an background on the ways of the Native Americans...I'd say they saved thier lives, if but meagarly in ways. For instance, they kept naking them boil bufflalo hides they carried with them, that was and way the Indians kept the hides over winter and the protein they derived from the hides in the winter as an "drink" simliar to beef broth with gelatin protein kept many an inidan alive when provisions ran out. Do remeber, Indians "lived off the land"...I checked the area..they could of also raided squirrle nests for pine nuts, and I found an kind of berry in the area that they may of used, as they knew about it...it stunned the fish temporairly so they floated on top, and was one way that they "fished" in the Lake. Though the little girl doesn' t mention such. What she di dmention though was there were several nuggets of Gold in the fireplace that no one cared about because they were into survival more then money at the time. She claims they started out in an speicl built two story connestoga wagon, which they eventually had to ditch going through the moountains. While at the other side of Donner lake, they resorted to the cannibalism of their dead. I shared this information with another Larkins descendent..she had it written up for the Gory of herself and law of one of the Larkins daughter's descendents given it to our family...which came Murphy family while hanging in an Hammock at Trillium Lake many years ago, and it brought such tears to my eyes as I recognized the story had been passed down to our family here in Oregon for an legacy. As it was it wsa documented that William E. Larkins arrived in Oct, here in Oregon 1747..done in true spirit of doing it correctly for traveling over the Oregon TRail...his teamaster of the Sawyer family laws also. I have various records by other people that at the time Oregon was an paradise made in heaven on earth for food and lack of want ..followed up by the account of the British Fort Vancouver personal saying that it was hard to get the local Indians to trade in furs for they lacked very little in being able to subside comfortably on what the land gave them rather then the tradin post. So I guess you knows, the story goes to whom writes if and what thier purpose is in ho wthey do it. A true historian tries to write for truth..not "glory"..... or "control" of another. Racheal Reed larkins "Quaker" family had an reputation for honoring the original Native Americans "rights" to their lands. William Penn "bought" the ground from them ahead of time before moving onto it....and it appears many a time they traveled with each other and not subject to one or the other..but as helpers and with respect. I'm thinking I could use soem milk right now...though I have powdered milk already stored if worse gets to worse. When you see the plains Indians tipti's wrapped in bufflalo hides you knwo they were preparing for winter coming...they knew the gelatin in the hides would stay frozen over most of winter and provide warmth for the tipiby insulating it as well...if indeed they had not an lodge already built for the entire tribe...with an pantry at one end and hanging over the celing with dried foods also...and an huge center fire pit. It is during this time of the winter, they did thier crafts work,,made arrows, and made mocasins and reparied implements...told stories and taught thier younger generations.... I go for now.

Sk Lawson Posts: 4014 Joined: 7th Oct 2010 Location: USA | Posted at 03:26 on 7th February 2014 my William E. Larkins came ot Oregon in 1847. We don' t have all that much snow here, but I ususally plan for these things anyway, for an moment of despartation...I call my pantry..so far no cars I've seen are having problems going through it, because it's not that deep, I can still see grass through the snow and patches of road top. Though I doubt it will be that way towards tomarrow afternoon possibly..depends on what they consider is north through the Williamette Valley area...for the second phase of this. We had an good hearty bacon and bean soup with pinapple and Canadia Bacon pizza....then I added fried snips of bacon, green pepper and extra cheese and some cherry tomato bits for dinner...I'm full. Most the schools are already closed for tomarrow, just reading the weather forcast. Sarah says she missed an lecture at school today...I told her if her teacher knows whathe/she is doing, they usually record such an event for people that missed it if it was important. If not maybe an another classmate recorded it. We kept the kids last night so they could go to the dentist today...she picked them up, said that she heard they closed the college down after 1 pm today anyway.Hubby took them in this morning...I woke up with my legs in cramps, fell on the floor and laid there trying to work the knots out of my legs. So I knew the weather was about ot change today drastically. When they get this bad, I most the time leave the area.electro magnetic pulsings to change or peep into my head...Earthquake Mary has left her area because of this also...she goes to her sister's house at Lake Tahoe.. They seem to think all pyschic/sentitives o rnative Americans because of thier visions...can tell them the future I guess.. Not necessarily.Nor do we read everyone' s minds all day either. We could never have an life of our own... if we did. Everything has an natural order of it's own with God anyway. Where are you right now Sue...still in the Vegaas area? |
