 Forty Elephants ....  Female gang of shoplifters .... mainly London

We became infamous throughout England, our activities were so damaging we came very close to wrecking something.

I thinkyou got it but you need to fill a bit more in John, as soon as I saw your answer I recalled the narrative on one Ruths images today, so I ain't gonna take it from under your feet

That'll be they John. It all went on around these parts, they were lead by a man called 'King' David Hartley who was eventually hung. They nearly brought the whole of the British currency to ruin.

Trust you are not related the them Ruth??

Read in one write-up on them that the gang was so big that thousands of folk in the area can still trace heritage back to themUndecided

Well there's every chance I could be related, all my Dads side of the family are from round these parts. Going back a couple of hundred years ago we don't shift from this area, apart from the ones who emigrated to the US in the early 1900's.
