All but the last few I submitted to POE are straight from the camera. Peter turned me on to Infranview (it's free!!). I'm too cheap and not serious enough to spend money on any photo editing software. But I have used Infranview to just auto adjust the colors, sharpen the image or blur a face. As for your original question about cheating, Mick, I don't think anything you choose to do to your photos is cheating if it enhances the beauty of the image. It's really the eye looking thru the eyepiece that creates the "art" of photography if you will.
