Hi Rob:  Welcome to the forum from me too.  It's quite brilliant - you will enjoy it.

Thanks, Diana for putting up one of my pics.  That was sweet.  And thanks for the comments.  Isn't the Freddie pic priceless??  lol

I don't know about the gull Ruth. They have a four year plumage and so will be the last bird I ever tackle when it comes to identification.

I wonder if Andy would know. ANDY, where are you????  I know about the computer problem that Ray told us about, but you can only let that keep you from us for so long. WE NEED YOU!

And Ray, that picture is lovely. I lived up on a hill when I grew up, and loved to watch the fog rolling in. Great picture!
It looks very much like a lesser black-backed gull (larus fuscus) in its' first year. Black bill, mottled brown back, it can't be anything else! I'm here Sue!!! lol.

So I was close, then.  Not bad for a land-locked desert rat!  lol  Thanks a million, Andy!!

You're not the only one, Wolf.  What's up with that?  Loved the black & white photo of yours posted by Diana.

Hello, Rob!  You've been here longer than I have, but welcome to the forum.  You do meet some interesting cats in your travels, don't you?  Laughing  Despite this one's ominous demeanor, I bet he/she is nothing but a sweet old .... pussycat?

Thanks, Ruth!  Glad to be back.  Life's been a bit hectic lately, but I always gravitate back to POE whenever possible.

I was staying in a cottage on Staples Hill in Freshford (a few miles SSE of Bath) while doing some research in Somerset and northern Dorset and this cat would regularly park itself on the ledge of the walkway in front of the cottage. Friendly, though that cat-like aloof sort of way. I am a dog person, mainly because I am extremely allergic to cats. I like cats but only from a distance!

Surely, it's not every cat that can do an impression of Charlie Chaplin????
