Wow! What a beautiful bird; is that a blue jay?

This is a Jackdaw, Diana. It is of the same family as the Jay (we don't have Blue Jays in England), they are called Corvidae or corvids. Others in this family you would recognize would be the Raven or American Crow.

Ron: I've been saying that for a long time Sally....Phoarrrh!

Ho ho, Ron! Be careful you don't ruffle any feathers or get us all preening!!!

Although nowhere near as good as these lovely pictures I did get a couple of shots over Christmas at a friend's bird table. I'd like to post them but they were taken in Holland. Does that disqualify them? The birds are pretty much the same (apart from their little clogs...)

LOL@SALLY. I bet they make a veritable racket whilst climbing on your roof with clogs on.

I don't know about the birds. Previously only photos taken in British airspace are deemed 'Pictures of England' but you need to check with moderators or Sarah/Chris.

I suppose they could be Lancashire cotton workers wearing Lancashire clogs, so who would know the difference anyway? lol

Ray.

Thanks, Ray. I think I'll leave them out. That seems like a sensible ruling ... otherwise, where would it end? Not at Dover, that's for sure!
