What a splendid idea - someone was thinking!!  Peter thanks so much for adding the extra "things to do" in Somerset.

I have one quick suggestion for Somerset and Westonzoyland! I have not been there since the mid 70's but again stayed in a pub there whilst on a survey and my word of advice is what NOT to do in Somerset. Us surveyors at the time thought it would be good to take on the locals at traditional wooden skittles in the pubs skittle alley,so a match was arranged and we were put up against the locals ladies team.There has never been such a lot of red faced surveyors totally thrashed!!!

Leave skittles to the locals.

As this is a whistle stop tour,why not go down to Bishops Lydeard for a steam train ride to Minhead on the west Somerset Railway.

Further north is Bristol. How about a trip on the river Avon in a narrow boat.

Here is a little stop off point for POE tour tourists to have a soak up of history.

Farleigh Hungerford Castle, the castle can be found to the west of Trowbridge on the A366.

Farleigh Hungerford Castle was built between 1370 and 1380 by Sir Thomas Hungerford of Heytesbury- 1st speaker of the House of Commons c.1377. It seems the castle and the Hungerfords had a chequered history, at least two Hungerfords were beheaded for aledged treason. More than one of the Hungerfords wives were hung for either killing their husbands or husbands from a previous marriage.

Another Hungerford is said to abused his wife badly and imprisoned her for a time and she claimed he tried to poison her as well. All these claims were never believed because of the high connections of her husband, what turbulant times they lived in.

 

 

The final shot shows St. Anne's chapel, I imagine in those days it was greatly needed.
