Do you think the Kingfisher could be the right bird species for our National Bird Vince? If not, which bird would you choose and why, what makes it special?

What do you think members?

As much as I have this thing to photograph the kingfisher I do not have it on my list. I cannot choose between Swan/Barn Owl/Puffin/Blackbird from the list but if any I suppose the Owl- great character, wise and they look wonderful. I might also put on the list The Woodpecker but that just might be cos I like cider and head-banging  ( well Strongbow and rock music anyway )

The Swan has a real chance of the title I reckon Vince. It has a few VIP's looking after it, owning them and I support that so the Swan for me I guess.

The Kingfisher is a real cracker as is the cider you refer to. lol

The best photographic tip I can offer with any bird / fast moving target is to shoot in continuous high speed shooting mode, and take a lot of pictures in the hope of getting at least one good one.

Thanks Rod, I have been trying a number of things with birds in general and pleased with a number of captures of quite a few different breeds but as far as the Kingfisher it is still a case of seeing one in the first place. There are a number on the River Mole in nearby Leatherhead and they are supposed to be seen from the hide at Warnham Nature Reserve that I go to sometimes- but still the search goes on.

I spotted a Kingfisher up at the Kilns (the lake at the rear of the house that belongs to the Wildlife Trust) and I can honestly say I have never seen them up there before, not in 60 plus years so a good sign maybe?
