Just make sure you order CIRCULAR  not Linear

I wondered for ages why circular polarisers are recommended for SLRs. A linear polariser gives just as good a photographic effect, but the metering system of most SLRs gets confused by a linear polariser and causes metering errors.

I've ordered glass Vince.

Thanks for the explanation Edward, I would have never known. I listened to Dave and made sure I ordered circular. Seems like I've a lot to learn.

Aye, you will have a bit to learn now Ruth with the SLR but don't be afraid to ask any questions no matter how trivial they may seem. A few capable folk here so we should be able to sort most of your questionsSmile

My "circular" polarising filter arrived yesterday, and since then the clouds have not lifted out of the valley or off the hills. On top of that we've been very busy so not had the chance to try it yet. Hopefully Monday in Ambleside - fingers crossed.

I also ordered a set of 4 close up lenses - still waiting for those to be delivered.

Thing is the more you look the more you see that you might want, and then there's people suggesting stuff that would be useful Laughing
