Hi,

I've only been a contributor to this amazing site for about a month, but already I just can't stop telling all my friends how great it is.  I was born in Spennymoor (a small town originally based on mining and iron & steel making) in 1943, so that means I'll be a pensioner soon, not that I'm looking forward to that!

In 1966 when I was much younger, my lovely wife and I lived and worked in Leeds for a short time, until her family persuaded us to 'return home'.  I've just taken the Leeds picture tour, and would like to send my heartfelt thanks to all of the many contributors who made it possible.  For a while, I was a young man again, and I walked through Leeds (the one I remember) guided by the beautiful pictures of the modern day city, hand in hand with my lovely young wife, who died nearly 20 years ago.

Many, many thanks to you all, and please keep up the good work.  POE is only as good as those of us who make a contribution make it.  And that means that you must all be pretty special people!

Ha! I made it first  .

Sorry Alan, just a bit of friendly rivalry going on to be the first to greet newcomers.

It's great to have you here.. We really are a friendly little bunch of people, a few on the mad side, but we tolerate them.

Looking forward to getting to know you through your posts and pictures.

Hi, Alan. Welcome to POE. I am not one of the mad ones, never mind what the others might say. He he he. But what I would like to know is, how come that lot from America get to welcome people on here first?

I come from a mining family too. My father moved to London to make sure I didnt have to go down the pits.

Now that you have introduced yourself, dont forget to come into the forums for a chat. We are like an extended family. Complete with all the name calling. All in fun though. Lol

Hello, Alan, nice to meet you.  I'm one of that lot from America, so it's probably a little weird welcoming you to POE, but welcome nevertheless.  I'm also quite sane, but I love the rest of the mad lot here.  Hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.  It's a brilliant site.
