Also, nearby Totnes is worth a visit:

Hi Joni and welcome.  I see that you'll be visiting Sheffield.  I think that's in South Yorkshire, but take a ride up to North Yorkshire.  York is fabulous and the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors are God's country for sure.  And if you have time, pop over to the shore towns of Scarborough and Whitby.  I hope you have a great trip and that you'll post some of your photos here.

Just getting back to look at the forum and found a neighbor!  Not sure what part of Illinois you're in, Joni, I'm near Centralia myself.  Missed the Ohio State at Illinois game, my son is a Marching Illini staff member, so I guess I'm a little partial to the Orange and Blue these days.

We are planning a trip in April, and I want to spend my time at B & B's, seems more "homey" and in touch that way.  And, I see Ruth's suggestion about Whitby, I've fallen in love with it through pictures, it is definitely on my list of places to see, as is as much of Yorkshire as possible, and the Cotswolds.

I am just north of Bloomington Normal, in El Paso!  I was just through Centralia twice in the last week, though, visiting family in Benton.

Marching Illini member?  Well, too bad he can't be a member of TBDBITL, but a proud band member is a proud band member, I always say!!!  I support the Illini for all games other than when they play Ohio State!  And they ALWAYS play OSU tough, no matter how bad their football team is...the rivalry keeps the spirit alive, and its always a good, spirited game, never lopsided.  And Illini basketball is so much fun to watch!

I will be staying with friends when I am in the north country, so won't have too much B&B info to share, I'm afraid.  I have to get back to trip planning --- there was a family illness and death, which has kept me on the road, and otherwise occupied.  That is why I was in your area twice this last week.

Let's keep in touch and maybe we can share information as we plan!

Thanks for contacting me!

Sorry to hear about your loss, Joni.  That's always hard. We'll be on the road to Champaign on Saturday for the Illini homecoming game.  My son is a band staff member, not a member of MI, but loves what he does.  He does play in a concert band.  He was in marching in high school.  It's alot of work, but worth every minute.  I'm sure we'll be in attendance for some basketball games, too.  That's  a great perk with having a son be part of the bands!

I leave in 19 days!  So excited!  Still have so much to do!

I've decided to spend a couple of days in Bristol.  Anyone have any input on that city?  Ron?

Though I've only passed through Bristol, I would highly recommend that you visit nearby Bath and Wells, two really beautiful towns. Have a great time and take (and post) lots of photos!

Both Bath and Wells are on my "Short List"...the problem is, my short list is too long!  LOL

There are so many towns in Devon and Cornwall that I want to see...what I need to for someone to say "Oh no, don't go there!"

And now it looks as if I will have to rent a car, which I hadn't planned on, as the friend who I had planned to stay with and rely on for a tour guide has become unavailable, which makes me a bit nervous...but I shall sally forth, I suppose!!

Thank you so much for all your suggestions.  I did buy a new camera for the trip...I just hope I can do it justice!
