Stour Valley Autumn At the beginning of the Autumn Equinox the sun rises directly over the ancient hill fort of Hod Hill. Alternatively in early summer it emerges from behind Hambledon Hill, another ancient hill fort slightly to the north east, up the Stour Valley. In any event looking at this sunrise, it is little wonder that the Ancient Britons were sun worshippers. 24th October 2011. Cottage Gardens Whilst recording the activities of some of the Shillingstone Bee population, this one suddenly took an interest in the camera. The resulting rare head-on shot, and the reflection of light in its' eyes, reaffirms the belief that they do not wear sunglasses. It's the first time I've been face to face with a bee, and it puts me in mind of a flying Jack Russel terrior. Stour Valley Summer Burton Community Orchard, Shilligstone. An orchard and wildflower meadow involving the whole village in maintaining an open space, including opportunities for volunteering to learn new skills such as hedge laying and pruning. The local school is also involved in the maintenance of the orchard. The orchard was also part of an archealogical survey, on the site of a Roman Villa.
