Finch on Loughrigg? Not sure what make of Finch this is (sure someone will put me right) but he was certainly very friendly and not at all bothered by my presence This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D 1 person has added this picture to their favourites |
Farm close to Loughrigg Tarn and Grasmere A very quiet looking farm just off the western edge of Loughrigg tarn. This shot give a good idea of what the day was like, thick cloud with heavy rain interspersed with periods of lovely sunshine. The waterproof has never been on and off so many times in one day! Rydal Water from Loughrigg Terrace Looking eastwards from Loughrigg Terrace with Rydal Water in the distance. A very pleasant walk from here back to Ambleside This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Old gate Grasmere This old gate took my eye on the road not far out of Grasmere towards Loughrigg. A long time since was used a gate I reckon but quite a regular passing for animals it seems This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmre from Loughrigg Grasmere viewed from halfway up to the summit of Loughrigg. Just one of several stops on route to the top to get breath back and stop my heart trying to jump out of my body! It's a ruddy hard climb but well worth the effort. Probably even more so on a nice day This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 5 cafe Lovely setting for a cafe / tearooms overlooking the River Rothay in middle of Grasmere This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 3 Grasmere's wishing well, run by the Ambleside Rotary Club, the same as Hawkshead This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 9 phone box One of the many popular target for cameras in Grasmere with what I think is the summit known as Stone Arthur in the distance This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 8 The green Grasmere village green with the ice-cream shop centre left and Grey Crag as backdrop with Heron Pike looming in the distance. Only an hour before I was on top of Grey Crag at Alcock Tarn! This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 7 Baldry's Baldry's, another of the many tearooms in Grasmere. Looks very nice but tearooms are not really my scene This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 6 riverside cafe again Wider view of the cafe with a bit more river and the Church grounds opposite This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 4 The Red Gecko A deceptively small looking building. Ground floor a shop selling all sorts of odds and ends, didn't have time to browse. But the sign above says 'spacious 4/5 bedroom apartment). Be nice to have a nosey round in there This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 2 Potted Out Lovely little cafe called 'Potted Out' very popular all day not just across lunchtime when I happened past it This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 10 Grey Crag Grey Crag looming above the village green. You can just make out the track that leads to the top and Alcock Tarn hiding between the lamp on the right and tree to its left, and it is definitely as steep and hard going as it looks. Looking at it from here I probably wouldn't have attempted it, but it was well worth the effort! This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Grasmere village 1 Walking into Grasmere from the south, the first of the tourist nick knack shops, a few of these plus plenty of 'outdoor' shops and cafes etc This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Alcock Tarn 1 After well over an hour ascending the steep slopes Alcock Tarn at last. Not one of the largest of Tarns but worth the trek if only to sit down by the water and partake of lunch This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Alcock Tarn 2 Alcock Tarn having moved a few yards This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Alcock Tarn 3 Alcock Tarn again but if you look carefully you can just make out Windermere glistening about 5 or 6 miles away in the distance This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Brackenfell woods A small piece of woodland with relatively level tracks, quite different from the steep and strenuous climb up to Alcock Tarn and back again This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
Downhill track from Alcock tarn The track down from Alcock tarn, still as steep but not as strenuous as going up. Rydal Water as backdrop. Not long after this a well earned ice cream was being consumed on the village green in Grasmere This picture appears in the following picture tours: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 500D |
