Lost in Time This sundial can be found in Trelissick Gardens in a small corner known as the Sensory Garden. Just a simple point in time captured for all time. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
The View South From Trelissick As promised this is the grand vista from the middle of the columns on the front facade of Trelissick House. The view shows Carrick Roads the body of water the makes a natural harbour the third largest in the world. In about the centre of the picture Pendennis Castle stands proud with Falmouth to the right. On a technical level - that looks a lot like some barrel distortion to me. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
Trelissick House From the South Walk This is the main facade of the house once owned by the Copelands of pottery fame. The view from the the columns looking south can be seen on my following upload. Details of the South Walk can be seen on the Boat shelter pic. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
Make of it What You Will at Trelissick This is in Trelissick Park right down by the beach where the water of Carrick Roads. I am not sure what it is supposed to be other than a shelter made out of boat parts, there are a number of wooden carved pieces also there but they are more artistic carvings though. To find this structure set of from the main car park and go through the metal gates at the cattle grid next to the ice cream booth that never seems to be open when we are there. This is the beginning of The South Walk so follow the tracks in the grass looking out to the Carrick Roads and Falmouth and as you descend to waters level turn left to the beach and there you will find the structure. To continue on the South Walk walk along the beach and on the other side go through the small gate and now the walk goes through the woods that grow right to the edge of the water. To the left catch glimpses of Trelissick House with it's white columns and to the right through the trees see out to the water and the many passing boats. The path continues on it's way veering to the left as you go with now the River Fal on your left and this will eventually lead you to the King Harry Ferry. After watching the to-ing and fro-ing of the chain ferry left again and either up the narrow road or into the Gardens through the Ferry entrance of Trelissick Gardens to lead you back to the car park. One of my favourite walks when I am down there. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
NightLite Not the best of shots but I had to have a go at this shot looking down Carrick Roads towards Falmouth. The view takes in the lights of Falmouth about five miles distant and the light on the top of the spit of land on the horizon is Pendennis Castle in floodlight. I took the shot handheld so had to push the iso therefore it is rather noisy so sorry for that, will have to practice a bit more on lowlight shots. Bin Diggin' in the Dirt ! A bit of company for the blackbird Ruth photographed and posted recently. This one is in the garden of the Engine House where we stayed and it seems the lawn is a good source of grub. The very first time we stayed there there were a pair with a new brood nesting in one of the shrubs at the front door of the Engine House - good job the door everyone uses is the second door further along and so they were not disturbed. We used to see the mum running around the lawn before grabbing a beak full and dashing back to the nest, this one did visit quite a lot this year but we had no idea where the nest was this year. Can someone open the packet of biscuits please? A fun shot taken after an afternoon tea ( well cider for some) with a few biscuits to nibble and this little character a regular visitor looked rather helpless with all the crumbs wrapped up well. I do wonder if this robin is any relation to the character in POE shot id no. 1174955 This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D 1 person has added this picture to their favourites |
Trelissick Twitter Yes I know he should be looking the other way ( or she as the case maybe), but I reckon it was being considerate to stop still long enough to give me time to catch the shot. For those of you with green fingers I believe the bush was a berberis. I have just made Lyn a birthday card and he sits proudly on the front. Trelissick Park and House. Seen from the South Walk in Trelissick Park we can pause and look back to see the main facade of Trelissick House. The building looks across the Park and right down Carrick Roads ( the stretch of water that goes down to Falmouth and on out to sea ). The House has now been vacated and contents sold but was home to Leonard Davenham Cunliffe who at one time was Deputy Guvnor of the Bank of England. It passed from him to his stepdaughter Ida Copeland whose husband Ronald was part of the Spode-Copeland bone china makers. Many exhibits were housed there and when Ida left the House to the National Trust they could be seen but at very restricted times as further generations of the Copelands continued to live at Trelissick. I believe the sale of contents made over three million pounds. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
The Lookout and the Celtic Cross @ Trelissick Garden This is a shot so often taken and is on one of the post cards sold by the National Trust,I had taken this same pic last year and posted on POE. However, I have taken this shot in May this year and I feel this one shows off the exotic foliage much better. The hut is called The Lookout and the views from this high position looks down on the River Fal. The Lookout is dedicated to a past head gardener to the gardens. Also, you can see a celtic cross in the bottom left of the pic. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
Sundown on Trelissick I know this was taken in May whilst at Trelissick but I think as the longest day draws to a close tonight , this would be an appropriate time to share the image. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
Misty,Foggy Morning Even bright sunny days can start off on the wrong foot, this shot was taken about six in the morning and a while later one could be sitting outside in bright sunshine munching on Cherrios. Feeling Sheepish? Not what you would expect to see in Trelssick Garden but this portion of the gardens had many strange sights. What we have here is one of many exhibits by students of a local art college from the Falmouth area. The strange sights ranged from what we see here to a half buried chair to a pedestal with a relief construction showing the contours in 3D of the River Fal and Carrick Roads. Trelissick Bonsai Display This is the fourth time we have stayed at Trelissick and the second time our stay coincided with the Cornwall Bonsai Society holding their annual display. I like looking at bonsai so had to have a look see and there were many fine exhibits. As an example here is one display showing a number of plants on one stand. The theme for this years show was "Bonsai in the Cornish Landscape" and that is where my avatar came from , it shows a windswept Hawthorn bonsai displayed in front of a painting of the engine house at the Towanroath shaft of Wheal Coates near St. Agnes. Well Ijust had to take that shot. Anyway enjoy the beauty of the bonsai in front of you. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Panasonic Model: DMC-FZ38 |
The Night of the Full Moon Taken from the garden of the Engine House Cottage at Trelissick , for once I had the advantage of very little light around and very clear air. With a few bits of foliage conveniently in the way it makes for a more atmospheric pic. This picture appears in the following picture tour: Camera Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 550D |
HIYA EVERYBODY, I'M SCRUFFY-BORIN !! Cor, think I must have flown backwards through a prickly hedge- no prizes in a beauty contest for me. I do think it has messed up me landing gear a bit, not sure if it is a landing or a take off but whatever it is looking a wobbly for sure. Good job I like a larf , so thought you guys might have a giggle at my expense- hey gotta go now must fly ( must see if I make a better job of it this time) ---- Bye All. Sundown On The Water Tower First night staying at the Engine House and enjoying the evening in the garden the Water Tower just needed to be photographed and with a full moon a couple of nights away it was starting to look good in the sky. I did manage to get a few moon shots on the night of the full moon with silhouettes of foliage on the surface of the moon. Woodland Walk Around Trelissick garden there are some lovely walks, this shot was on the South Walk. From the car park at Trelissick one walks across Trellisick park ( some times in the company of cows ) but always with a stunning view with Carrick Roads in front of you. At the far end of the Park go left along the beach and through the gate and into the woodland, the view to the south and Falmouth is always there through gaps in the trees and from the seat as you go round the tip of Trelissicks grounds. Now the woodland walk heads Northward and the trees thicken but glimpses of the boats going to and fro to Truro are there and somewhere along the way a ray of sunshine highlights some bluebells and the camera just has to come out. Soon the clanking of chains are heard- no not ghosts but the King Harry Ferry doing it's work. After watching the ferry carrying the cars back and forth head up the narrow road ( take care ) you can enter the gardens via the ferry entrance to the Gardens or continue up the road to the main car park and know it is a walk you will want to do again. Now That Looks Tasty I had a great time in the garden of the Engine House chasing around with the camera. Here I managed to "shoot" this character who I guess must be a sparrow in a bush that I hazard a guess to be berberis ( but I am ready to be corrected ). The Engine House- Trelissick- View 2 By popular demand a further shot of the building and part of the garden in a garden as all this is set in a National Trust garden. A further view is all ready on POE ID 1141520 and that shows the other building in the garden with the Engine House- that is the Water Tower and the iconic symbol of Trelissick gardens ( it too is a holiday let by NT ) . The Water Tower has the kitchen diner up in the top of the tower and the lounge on the floor below. Below the lounge is the bedroom whilst a trip to the bathroom/loo means out of the entrance door and into the adjacent door for the facilities suitably screened by a hedge ( although that did look like it was suffering last year ). The pic on POE of the Tower, so much like a "Rapunzel" tower, was used in the NT brochure for 2012 I think.
