Typical. The town name in the 1901 records showing Cambs. is illegible, so was going backwards to see if it were clearly written in previous ones. If this is Kelly's family, the flood gates of it will soon open ! Only one John W born near 1884, so having a gamble i'ts her Grandad, at 1 Smiths Cottage, Shorne. It's Hutton, Cambs. for William's place of birth. Edited by: Paul Hilton at:20th October 2008 17:53 |

My ancestors came from Monk Sherborne Hampshire to Quebec Canada in 1826 and alot of them & their descendants ended up in the Toronto area around 1854. Maybe we're somehow related!!?? I'd LOVE to get over to England one day and really get into searching, but easier said than done. |

Who know's! By any chance in your Canadian family history is there any connections to either of the following families; Rollins, Johnston, Phillips or MacMillan? These connections would be more recent than the 1850-60 era. My grandmother was a Wickens whom married a MacMillan. Thanks for you post if you are interested in sharing info please let me know.

I haven't yet been able to find a connection from Rotherfield to my 'Berkshire/Hampshire' Wickens but I know there must be one. ......Not even sure how far away those areas are from each other.......? - Thanks Paul, I sure wish I could see through your eyes!! I'm very glad to know that those villages aren't all modernized and spoiled and sure would love to explore someday. I have a photo of the house where my Great, Great grandfather was born in Monk Sherborne, 1826 - but I guess it probably isn't there anymore. I know the main point of this website is 'photos' so I really should look to see if there are any pics of these areas on here! Just went straight to the genealogy section out of habit.... Kelly, I don't know how far you've gone in your research - I found in the 1901 Canada Census, a John Wickens born in Ontario 1844, married to Hannah - with 10 children living there at the time, almost ALL with the same names you have listed. John's parents were both born in England - No first names given. Seems that Hannah died in 1911 from falling on the ice and hitting her head! So it would be John's father in England that you are looking for then? England has some great census records if you can get into the UK genealogy sites without paying an arm & leg...LOL... ................Sue I have been looking at some of the pictures, they're so beautiful and full of character. Plus I am an avid viewer of BBC Canada TV - can't get enough of the charming villages and lovely landscapes. I'm just a big 'Brit Wannabe'... |
