No matter where you go on the site there is a 'donate' and ''please support this website ' opportunity. Perhaps some members have already donated, I don't know, but I hear little bits of conversation now and again and frankly I'm glad I'm not the one responsible for the bills. Perhaps also, this opportunity to discuss what might happen if the 'big boys' came in was appropriately timed, although I have to say not deliberate. So fellow members are we all up for a fee? |

Friends Reunited charged, and that was taken over eventually by a bigger more impersonal company, from what started out in a spare bedroom in just an ordinary couples house in England. They've now had to drop the charges as no one wanted to pay to belong to it, as there's so many other free sites they could join that more or less does the same thing. If you placed a charge and not relied on the generosity of people donating (I may not have paid much but I HAVE donated) I really think it would put people off. Anyway whats stopping someone else from starting up a site very similar for free?? These are just my thoughts thats all, and I may be wrong. It's a tough world out there! |

I haven't donated, but have no problem with it, and will now! i use it enough!!! |

Thats ok if everyone thinks like that Diana, but if there's only half a dozen members willing to pay then the site won't be worth running surely? Anyhow I have to go, will pop back later and see how this discussion is going LOL |

But there must be an answer to this problem. We are a family here and Sarah and Chris are the "parents" of this little family no child worth their salt leaves their parents out in the cold when hard times come. That's NOT an accusation against anyone here btw, I am just thinking out loud. I am also acutely (and even embarrassingly) aware at how little my donation turns out to be once the conversion from dollars to pounds takes place. I suppose I feel guilty that I haven't been able to do more. Which doesn't mean that I won't continue to try. |
