I used to listen to Johnny Horton's songs a lot when I was in grammer shcool. The songs were a fun way to remember dates in history. LOL!

"Freight Train," Cotten's most noted tune was written when she was twelve years old. It has long been considered an American folk song classic.

Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten was Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on January 5, 1895. She started playing her older brother's Banjo at the age of eight. She soon moved on to his guitar. She was self taught and played the guitar left-handed and upside-down.

Iwas after the girl who sang it in 1957  England.

She was part of a skiffle group.

Was it Nancy Grifiths? I am old enough, but have the worst memory in the world for names.

Pete it was a Nancy, but the surname she used was a drink famously brewed in scotland.

Johnnie Walker....nope, that's the label....Nancy Whiskey.
