I was thinking of the Shirelles' version, Paul.  They were my mom's favorite group.

Hi Ruth--looks like no one up but us two at the moment. You're very likely right about the Shirelles as I had a suspicion the Beatles had picked it up from someone else as a number of their early songs were. You're right of course about Paul Anka; an early Canadian singer/songwriter who did very well.

I didn't know he was Canadian, Paul.  Which reminds me, one of my all time favorites is the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.  Do you know who did that one?

I think Paul Anka came from Ottawa, Ont. I think Lorne Greene was a Canadian radio announcer before he got slightly more famous as Ben Cartwight. Gordon Lightfoot, another.  I know the name of the song Ruth, but can't recall who did it; I shall ponder then kick myself when I remember....

Or another---who played the guitar solos on early Beach Boy records; Stood in for 6 months on a tour with them as a Beach Boy too, then became quite famous in his own right---clue Ruth; think of Arizona towns in one of his songs later.

Your Canadian clue cracked it Ruth--Gordon Lightfoot --though my favourite of his has to be Sundown or Early Morning Rain in 2nd place. I think the most famous Canadian voice must be HAL in 2001?

Wasn't Dick Dale, was it Paul?  I know he was famous for that surfer guitar sound.  But I don't know.

As for Arizona towns, I can only think of 3 songs that have AZ towns - By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Route 66 and Take It Easy.

Phoenix, Flagstaff, Winslow huh?  Go for the first one.  Was around the time of Dick Dale but he was a session guitarist in L.A, and ended up on those early Beach boys records.

Flagstaff, Arizona.  Don't forget Winona.  Kingman, Barstow, San Bernadino.....hum hum.  LOL.  Winona and Kingman are in AZ too, Paul.

Haven't a clue, Paul on the Beach Boys.  It couldn't have been Glen Campbell.

It couldn't have been Glenn Campbell--but your right; it was actually, before he became famous in his own right and toured with them for about 6 months on stage earlier.
