Who know what song these lyrics came from, and who sang it?

Black water Hattie lived back in the swamp
Where the stange green reptiles crawl
Snakes hang thinck from the cypress trees
Like sausage on a smokhouse wall
Where the swamp is alive with a thousand eyes
And all of em watchin' you
Stay off the track to Hattie's shack in the back of the Black Bayou

Ok who sang 'Other Man's Grass Is Always Greener' in 1967?

That would be Petula Clark, Lyn.

Di, Ithink the song was called Swamp Witch by Jim Stafford. A great southern type song.

Who sang, and what song ??

Down in Lou'siana, where the alligators grow so mean,
There lived a girl that I swear to the world,Made the alligators look tame,

Wolf if I am not mistaken that song is Polk Salad Annie, another great southern song! But I don't know who sang it originally, I can only remember Elvis' version!

Polk Salad Annie, more correctly Poke Salad Annie was written and performed by Tony Joe White who was also the first to record it (in about 1969 I think, but don't quote me)

The difference, as I understand it is thatPol Salad refers to greens which are eaten raw, but Poke (Sallet) refers to greens which are eaten after cooking.  Maybe this thread should be transferred to the recipe page.
