My big dog Wolf, he was an Alaskan Malamute, a huge mate that loved to wrestle with me. Sadly he became a victim of cancer.

 In Memory of Wolf

Independent, stubborn, yet ever cute

Wolf was our adored Malamute

With his coat of fur, grey and white (?)

He was such a magnificent sight

Full of fun, yet gentle with all

He was our friend who always stood tall

Never aggressive, unreservedly kind

The most beautiful dog one could ever find.

Strong and reliable he always returned our love

Now he rests peacefully in God’s kennel, above.

There are times, Wolf, when few words say much.

Harry

Here is a poem which I sent  to a local rehabilitation centre

ADDICTION & RECOVERY (ACROSTIC)

Addiction is the bane of society
Do not allow yourself to be caught up
Determination is the key
Indulge yourself, and resist temptation
Contemplate the consequences
Turn away, when you are tempted
Inevitably, you will succeed
Others can be saved by your example
Nothing is impossible

Ask for help
Never refuse
Dare to win

Recovery can mean success
Early intervention can bring results
Call upon those with experience
Of dealing with similar circumstances
View the world as a beautiful place
Each and every day
Reach out to God; ask for His help
You will achieve your goal

 A Child’s Christening

Peacefully lies the newborn child
Nestling perfect in his mother’s arms -
Smiling gentle as she caresses
His translucent, alabaster brow

Innocence and perfection pervade
As the minister gives her vows
Accepting the child on God’s behalf
Whilst promising a perfect life

Songs of praise and prayers of solace
Enjoin the gathering to organ’s notes
An infant being is accepted
To become one of the hallowed flocks

A little boy now in innocence
When he is grown and old
And, in turn, his life fulfilled,
He  will return once more to his Maker

I wrote this poem following the birth of our last grandson.

The Ramblings of an Australian Bush-man

Kangaroo droppings on a well worn track
Lead me to a waterin’ hole and back
Don’t see another human bein’
In the outback, no-one seein’
Where I lay down me tattered swag
No modern comforts do I need to brag
The sun don’t shine, ‘neath the shady Gum
The scent of lemon, refreshes, some
I set me fire usin’ shriveled bark
Before the sun goes down and it gets too dark
I fills me billy with brackish water
(Not like the stuff used by me daughter
Back where she lives beneath city lights,
With all them fancy things, and bar-room fights
That always leaves some-one hospitalized
And ‘tother one hardly recognized)
But now, I do believe I’m beginin’ to ramble
My Word! See that rabbit scramble
When he saw that black-bellied snake
He just missed ‘im, for goodness sake
Anyways, I makes me tea
And damper, that I made for three…
Me two best mates have long gone away
Caught by the cops for rustlin,’ so they say
As for me, I stay clear o’ the law
Never know when you need ‘em, that’s for sure
I sips me tea and wipes me mouth
I do believe there’s rain comin’ in from the South
Them Southerlies can be quite cruel
There I go again, I'm beginnin’ to drool
I’ll have to shave off me facial hair
It always gets in me way, just there
When I drink or eats me food
D’ya reckon I’m being understood.
If I appear to ramble away
It’s only ‘cos it’s the end o’ the day
And I’m tired from huntin’ from early dawn
‘Scuse me while I have a yawn
These sun baked days do take their toll
On an old cobber’s weary soul
As I get into me twilight years
I should make plans to meet God, me fears
So, if I may beg your pardon
I’ll lay down me head and dream of His Garden
And in the morning, if I wake
And my soul he did not take
I’ll thank Him for givin’ me another day
I must remember to mention it, when I pray
An say G'day to me real best Mate
Before very soon it may be too late

Wolf, really sorry to hear about your dog.

Great poems Harry, as always. Please keep them coming. Really enjoyed the last one, and the one you did for Wolf.
